Can I just title every lunch post "Taste the Rainbow" or "Colorful Eats"!? I’m outta titles to describe the usual: salad, yogurt with mix-in, some kind of carb and a fruit!
Soooooo….
Salad!
Yogurt [Vanilla Bean Voskos!]
with mix-in [Kashi Cinnamon Harvest shreds]
Crunchy carb [Food Should Taste Good crumbs!!]
Fruit [S-burries represent!]
All the makings of another fantastic packed lunch. I’m 5.5 months into working full time and I’m not tired of packing lunches yet – something must be going right!
To keep you entertained: A Classic
Here are some photos from our first apartment out of college!! I loved that apartment a lot, we just out grew it a bit. But looking at these photos, I remember how cozy it was!

I’m so excited for you!!!!
Jessica @ The Process of Healing says
Your apartment was TOO CUTE!!!!! I can’t wait to move out on my own and decorate.

Where did you get your arm chairs? I’m looking for something just like that!
Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit! says
I can’t believe that was your first apartment out of college! It’s beautiful! Mine looked like a frat house (living with two boys contributed to that!).
Jessica @ How Sweet says
That was your FIRST apartment?! It was so nice! I wish my current home looked like that!
Marilou @ Mostly Healthy says
What a great appartment! Fresh out of college! Werent you suposed to have mix matched furniture and tacky pictures on the walls?
Lauren says
First of all, that’s an incredible first apartment!! I am living in my first out-of-college apartment now, but it’s not that spacious… love the lighting! (This apartment is, however, more spacious than the closet I was living in in NYC’s East Village!)
Also, I was wondering about your lunches… does the yogurt provide you enough protein to keep you satisfied?? I feel like I eat lots of whole grains and veggies and fruit but skimp on protein and am always looking for snacks… and I just want more fruit! Eeek!
— Lauren
Kath says
Yes. Yogurt does wonders for my lunchbox.
Wei-Wei says
Well, your lunches always look delicious! Classically colourful = always the best. 🙂 Hope you have a great afternoon, Kath! (It’s 1.03am here so I should probably get to sleep haha :D)
Wei-Wei
Morgan @ Life After Bagels says
I totally love your first apartment, oh gosh you shoulda seen mine. It was about the size of just your bedroom, but that’s what living in Toronto will get you.
PS – go ahead and call your lunch posts “taste the rainbow” all the time, I will definitely still read . . . although Skittles may not be too happy!
Claire says
That is so nice for a first apt…I can’t even get my boyfriend to get more furniture than a bed and kitchen stools…
your lunches always seem great!
lynn (The Actors Diet) says
wow – that was your first place outa college?!? when i lived in nyc the first year, i had a toilet in my front yard for months. no joke….
Carolyn @ lovinlosing says
I need you to come decorate my house. 😉
Katherine says
moving! goodness; good luck with it all!
Therese says
Holy smokes! I reiterate what others are saying: That was your FIRST place out of college?! Me = jealous! It’s almost nicer than where I live NOW! Ha ha ha
Moving can be a pain but the excitment of having new opportunities and a fresh new start can’t be beat!
Heather @ Side of Sneakers says
You’re apartment was so nice!! Goodness!! Moving can be super exciting, but it also makes you really nostalgic 😉
Beth @ DiningAndDishing says
that is the fanciest post college apt i have ever seen! 🙂 3 years out and mine STILL does not look that good. you have such lovely decorative taste
L and WWoB says
Your gonna love the Vanilla voskos! So good! But actually, you may think its a bit too sweet… 🙂
Marina says
that living rooms looks awesome, I really like your house!
hope you find a better one though 😉
Kristin says
Wow! That is a really great first apartment. Our first house doesn’t even look that nice! You are a great decorator!
Dee says
Oh my word! I loved how you decorated your apartment. I really enjoy seeing these flashbacks! 🙂
Anne says
Your first small apartment is giant in comparison to my San Francisco digs. I’d kill for extra space (and big windows!)
Diana says
LOVE looking at your apt photos. It does look cozy! 🙂
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
You have such great decorating taste!! Clean and crisp but not too modern, and cozy without being stuffy. You should do a decorating tips post!
Kristin (Salty Tooth) says
Cute apartment. My first apartment was not that nice at all, in fact, it was awful! But, I guess that’s the fun of college.
Annie @ stronghealthyfit says
So exciting! It’s fun to see your old apt. 🙂
Rose-Anne says
Oh, your old apartment was adorable. Look at all the LIGHT streaming in through the windows! Gorgeous. I’m in the process of decorating my new apartment; unfortunately I have zero interior decorator skills. Could I hire you? 😉
Sarah (OC2Seattle) says
What a cute place – not bad for a first apartment out of college! Good luck on the move!
Kailey (SnackFace) says
Oh my gosh! Your first apartment out of college was adorable! I’m pretty sure mine will look like an armpit.
Laura @ youngDCliving says
Love seeing pictures of your old apartment–I’m off to that out-of-college apt stage soonish! Did you do those paintings or is a that a family member?
Kathy W. says
Cute apt.!
(oh, and I saw a pear with a spot on it in your coffee!)
Jill says
I love how you use all the dregs (kashi crumbs and chippies). Waste not want not! 🙂 Love the healthy eating inspiration that is your blog!!
Ashley says
The green mini spoon is my FAVorite of all my minis!! 🙂
shannon (the daily balance) says
i too look back on me and the Mister’s first place so fondly!
Michelle says
I LOVE your furniture! Especially the living room! I’m looking at a bedroom set in a similar style, if only I can get money for it before it stops being made!
I’m trying to declutter our house right now. We’ve got excess mispatched pieces of cheap furniture that the hubs and I have acquired over the years. On Memorial Day I was able to dispose of several boxes of junk we had stored in our office closet. Now to get rid the extra wedding decorations!
Actually, we need more efficient storage, as well. Hmm.
Brittany says
Wow. Even your first apt looks immaculate. I think we are too messy to take pictures of our apartment. 🙂
Once you’re in Va we need to get together!!
Camille says
Oh my goodness, so pretty!
My apartment is too small and with too much stuff to look that nice!
Helen says
I love making my lunch in the morning, I look forward to it much more at lunch. If I have to buy something I always dread the decision process. Your first apartment looks great. It is much bigger than ours (I think) but ours is cosy and that is a good quality!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
WOw your first apartment looks so grown up. My first apartment looked like a mismosh of everything from my childhood including my old desk with NKOTB stickers on it.
Stacy (StacyGrowsHealthy) says
You are so organized. Your first apartment looks very put together.
Veggielady4life says
I love your sofa and chairs! Where did you find those?
LC @ Let Them Eat Lentils says
What kind of tupperware do you use? I’ve been packing my lunches more often and I can not find a good-sized salad container.
Kath says
Just regular old mis-matched Tupperware brand from the grocery store.
amanda says
I love your apartment’s set up. BTW, I also love that table but don’t you hate that it is on carpet. I think dining room should only be on a regular floor for easy clean ups.
MelanieF says
I hate moving! We’ve been living in the same appartment for the past 5 years. In a year or two, we would like to buy something thought. If the prices are not too high that is.
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
That’s a beautiful apartment! It does look very cozy. Even though I want a huge kitchen when I get a more permanent place, that one’s so cute! I love all the windows, too- it must have been amazing in the morning!
Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] says
Wowzers, your first apt. out of college is super nice. How did you guys afford such a nice, new place at recent college grads? I like your minimalistic style : )
Kath says
RE. APARTMENT:
Glad you guys think it was cute!!
It wasn’t fancy at all – just a 1 bedroom in an apt. complex in the ‘burbs of Charlotte. But I spent WEEKS combing through the apts to rent to find the perfect one 🙂
Our furniture was custom made for Karen in the 1990s and she gave it to us a year after living there. Our first furniture was all frat couches with slip covers!!
We did the bedroom paintings ourselves – a DIY for poor young people!
Heather says
love the living room furniture, so cute!
Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter says
That is such a HUGE and clean apartment! All of our college apartments are so tiny and disgusting. I’m really jealous.
Lisa @bakebikeblog says
What a gorgeous little apartment 🙂 I love your arm chairs! So beautiful 🙂
marie says
Very cute! I wish my apartment looked as nice! We have the old couches, cheap half broken ikea furniture, and hand me downs. Nothing matches; but still with roommates and still in college though. One day!
Ashley@thehungryscholar says
Cute apartment! I’m sure your new place will be even cuter!
Amber K says
That salad is so beautiful! I love a huge salad for lunch.
Jillian says
Funny- I’ve thought about the title thing before, how sometimes y’all must sit there and go “uhhhhhh….hmmmm…”, trying to think of one if something doesn’t pop into your head right away, when I bet most of us just glance at it for a millisecond, if that. If I were you, I’d be all “Lunch: June 8th, 2010” at this point 😉
Deirdre says
Loved seeing the old pics! Can’t wait to see pics of your new semi permanent digs!
kelsey says
did you guys sell? find a place? I noticed you’ve been packing!
Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ says
Great apartment a lot nicer then my first apartment.
sarah (the SHU box) says
OMG!! your outgrown apt = our apt! so similar. (i think). did you think so!?
(we’re probably moving to durham in a year or so to a more urban style apt – but i agree this place is cozy!)
rebecca says
omg i just saw this post and thought WOW the layout looks JUST LIKE my sister’s apt…
(– the sis)
Devon says
OMG I love love love those chairs in your living room!
Hannah says
Oh my lord, I just started renting my first place with a friend and am moving in next weekend, and GAH! It’s about a squillion times smaller than your old place… but I mustn’t grumble. At least I have a Smurf 😀
P.S. Love the cereal shreds. I always kinda love getting to the bottom of a box where all the broken pieces are.
Marissa says
My relationship with gas fireplaces is love-hate. I love that you can have a fire whenever you want as often as you want… but I hate that it doesn’t smell like a fire!
Anne @ Food Loving Polar Bear says
Your house is so pretty!
Kelly says
I love reminiscing about places I used to live too. Everything is so momentous when it’s your first time out on your own as an adult. My first apartment out of college was my first time living alone, where I had my first dog, and where I fell in love while cooking many dinners for my fiance. Ohhh memories. 🙂
