My favorite type of days involve both standing up and sitting down.
This morning I sat down and worked at my computer for a few hours. And then I stood up and…cleaned the attic!!
Nesting much? I pretty much just sorted things by category and pushed them all back so it feels more spacious up there. It was not the smartest task for me to do 29.5 weeks pregnant, but at least it wasn’t too hot up there and I hate nagging Matt to do things like this that I get pleasure out of ( = anything organization).
Despite the cool morning, I returned to the main floor a sweaty mess! And since, the sun has come out and summer humidity is here! Yay! I probably should have showered after this project instead of before..
I worked on my feet a bit more around the house doing housework things and then realized I should probably have lunch. I didn’t have much of an appetite – from the activity and the heat – but a smoothie sounded refreshing.
Smoothies are deceiving because they look so light but they really can pack a lot in.
This guy contained swiss chard leaves…
Greek yogurt…
Blueberries, banana, milk and ice – plus about 1/3 cup of raw oats.
Coconut butter drizzled on top. I hit most of the food groups there!
On the side I enjoyed some pretzels and sharp cheddar, my current favorite food.
May your afternoon be warm and involve a little stretching!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
That smoothie sounds refreshing! 🙂 Enjoy the rest of your day!
Lynn @ the actor's diet says
I haven’t been in an attic in…ever?!? Reminds me of The Goonies!
KathEats says
Really!?!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
nice work on the attic! i had a delicious smoothie as part of my lunch today too. it hit the spot!
Annette @FitnessPerks says
My grandma in Switzerland had an attic. I love it!! Full of memories 🙂
Ahhhh smooothie! SO good. Had one at b-fast. HIT the spot after sweaty workouts.
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
Pretzels and cheddar are so good together – way better than the processed pretzels filled with cheddar “stuff”! Now I want some!
JessicaE says
Why wasn’t it smart? As long as you weren’t doing a bunch of heavy lifting I don’t see what’s unsafe about it. <3
Jessica says
Why was it not the smartest task for you to do at 29.5 weeks pregnant?
Your smoothie looks SO good!!
KathEats says
Because it was hard, dusty, hot and some lifting
Hope says
If you’ve been 29.5 weeks pregnant you’d know why she said it wasn’t the smartest. It’s not impossible it just makes things a bit more difficult. It’s definitely easier to do that kind of stuff when your body isn’t busy growing a human being.
I with I had your love of organizing, Kath. I love being organized I just hate getting there.
JessicaE says
I am the other Jessica who commented but I wanted to say that I am 35 weeks pregnant.. so I have been 29.5 weeks pregnant and I know first hand how much more difficult certain things are.. just walking is difficult right now for me. She didn’t mention any lifting so I was wondering if there was something about the attic I didn’t know… so yeah :/ I for one didn’t mean it in a snarky or bad way at all. Just curiosity from one pregnant gal to another.
Jessica says
I have been 41 weeks pregnant three times and I didn’t know why she said it isn’t the smartest, so I asked and she answered. Thanks for your input, though 🙂
Hope says
No problem! 🙂
Ashley @ Hudson on the Potomac says
I love the sense of accomplishment you get after cleaning out an area! That cheddar looks great, as does the smoothie!
Leah says
I’m surprised you didn’t eat the smoothie in a bowl with a spoon! Looks good!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
What a good reminder! I DO need to do some stretching actually… 😉
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
There’s a lot of nutrition packed into that lunch! I wish I had the nesting thing going on. 11.5 years after having my last son has left my drive to clean to be less that visible these days…the mess never ends!
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
Way to go, Kath! ….The nesting thing took over me last Saturday and then it backfired on me BIG TIME- guess I’ll probably try again this weekend, see what I can get done. My baby needs a nursery to sleep in!!!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
oh gosh, now all I want is pretzels and cheese! That looks soooo good!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
That looks tasty! I have a Gaiam Balance Ball Chair at work (basically a Swiss ball that sits on a base with a lower back support) and every half hour or so I try to do some stretches on it. The best is when I’m draped over it and a co-worker walks past….. #awkward!!
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
I love really really sharp cheddar. And I was just thinking…nesting much? when I read about the attic cleaning 🙂
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
A nice cold smoothie would hit the spot in our humidity here in Southern Ontario! Need to remember to make them more often for a refreshing lunch! Great idea for our Swiss Chard growing in the garden!
Angel7 says
Will you put a room or office in the attic in the future, or is the ceiling to low to have a room?
http://faithfulsolutions.blogspot.com/
KathEats says
I think it’s too low to do without bumping up
Diane says
Our attic looks so different – lots of insulation everywhere. What nail polish is that? I like it. Looks similar to what I currently have on my toes.
Jordan @ Bake Write Sleep says
I loveee cleaning… It’s just the starting part that I hate ;]
Ashley @ Eat Sleep and Breathe It says
Sharp cheddar and crackers are my favorite afternoon snack right now. I need to buy me some coconut butter!
Jennifer says
You have a super clean attic. Wow!
That snack of sharp cheddar and pretzels sounds delicious. I love sharp cheddar! 🙂
Linda says
I’m a big fan of smoothies. The one I had this morning had a banana, oats, peanut butter, kale, cinnamon and soy milk. Smoothies are my breakfast routine.
mary @ minutespermile says
i’ve done a similar meal before (grilled cheese and smoothie!) but get worried that milk, cheese, and yogurt is too much dairy. what do you think?
KathEats says
It’s fine with me…
OliePants says
Geez our attic does not look so nice. I need to do a lot of organization this weekend. 🙂
natasha says
We got swiss chard in our CSA bag this week…now I knoiw what to do with it! Love green smoothies.
Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count says
That smoothie looks so good! I really need to start making them. I keep saying that…
Living, Learning, Eating says
Looks tasty! Ugh, it’s supposed to be 95 tomorrow and 100+ on Thursday here in NYC. I am SO not looking forward to that! 🙁
donna says
Don’t overdo it! I need you to come organize my closet! I have to be in the mood, which is not often.
I love all green vegetables, but I’ve never had veggies in a smoothie (well, a V-8 drink is all!) I’m not sure I could stomach it. The color does not look appetizing. Does it taste like vegetables? Or fruit? Sweet or savory?
KathEats says
You can’t taste the greens at all. Sweet from banana!
Alyssa (pb and oatmeal) says
I don’t even think I have an attic?!
Julia H. @ Going Gulia says
Ah, that mention of oats in your smoothie just reminded me that I’ve can FINALLY try making a dough boy smoothie! I’ve been wanting to try one for such a long time, but we didn’t have a working blender. We have one now, though, so I’ll make a point of trying it!
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
I’m pretty much always in the mood for a smoothie in this crazy heat/humidity (I just got back from Chicago tonight and apparently I brought the weather back with me!). Of all the greens I’ve put in a smoothie before, I haven’t tried chard!
I get so sucked in to cleaning projects…
Baking Serendipity says
Pretzels and cheese sounds like an awesome afternoon snack!
Michele Sparrow says
If you feel like making a trip to Santa Cruz, I can think of a few things I have around here that need serious organization…since you like it so much! 🙂
Amy Wiginton says
Kath- where do you buy your different nut butters and which one is your favorite?
KathEats says
Everywhere from whole foods to the internet. All time favorite is trader joes sunflower butter
Katie says
A friend and I were just talking last night about the things you do while pregnant and soon after giving birth that are not the best idea. Playing softball and other sports, exercising 7 hours before giving birth (although it helps labor), carrying bricks, climbing ladders, painting and other remodeling projects. Although it certainly made me feel good to stay busy and active while pregnant and it seems like you are the same way Kath. Pregnant women are allowed to do a lot more now than would have been acceptable in the past.
Amy Wiginton says
I went to the Whole Foods food bar yesterday and thought of this blog. Had grilled salmon and grilled veggies and berries. It was so delicious-especially after spending 6 hours in the ER with our 6 yro who broke her arm from falling off the monkey bars at our park. I could eat at WF every single day except that its so pricey. Will check out the nut butters next time I am there. Thanks!!!
KathEats says
Broken arm…. Oh no
