Still here 🙂 Last night I actually slept really well. I didn’t get in a nap yesterday, so I think my body just needed to catch up. Maybe now that I’m well rested the baby will know I have the energy for labor! I did still roll over 1,000 times and have super sore hips, as usual, but total sleep hours were at a max for the last few weeks.
I had whipped banana oatmeal with PB&J for breakfast.
I can’t really nap in the mornings unless I’m sick, but I did rest yesterday with my book. I’m reading Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman, which my mom bought (we share a Kindle Household). Apparently it’s from the 90s and there’s a movie about it with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock! It’s an odd book, but I’m enjoying it so far.
Speaking of Kindles, did you see there’s a new Paperwhite that is waterproof (hello bathtub!), includes Audible so you can flip between audio books and text, and it has a flush face so particles of sand don’t get stuck in there while reading on the beach. I am obsessed with my Kindle and do not need a new one what-so-ever, but am coveting the new one. Maybe they’ll have a killer Black Friday deal? Or maybe someone wants to buy my Paperwhite used.
Post rest numbers:
I had a few appointments yesterday (chiropractor included) and came home to make this epic sandwich for lunch: egg, pepperjack cheese, cream cheese, avocado, spinach, honey mustard. Plus apple (my favorite lunch side these days) and pita chips.
I also squeezed in a walk – it was the most beautiful warm fall day in history!
Mazey and our neighbor played Legos nicely together for a while before heading to Matt’s for the night.
In an effort to take our minds off of the baby, we went out on another date. In fact, we’re going on “last dates” every night we can until this baby comes out.
We went low-key to Citizen Burger where I had a mini smash burger with pimento cheese and pickles and sweet potato fries. My stomach space is low and I barely touched the fries, but I brought them home for lunch for Mazen. I got a small scoop of ice cream while we strolled the mall, which was a mistake because I felt so uncomfortably full I had trouble getting in bed two hours later (bedtime heartburn is a new thing for me.)
It really never crossed my mind that I’d be in the hospital on my birthday, but if he comes today or tomorrow that will be the case! I also really didn’t think I would deliver late again. My mom gave birth in week 39 twice, and Thomas was born a week early, so I just thought I had genetics on my side (I read an article that gestation length is mostly genetic somewhere.) Just shows you never know! Here we are. Because I’m hoping for another drug-free birth, I really hope we don’t have to turn to induction, but I’ll be doing some kind of acupuncture early next week if we cross that bridge. I hope that full moon keep its energy going one more night! I’m doing my best to stay busy and keep my spirits optimistic!

Our daughter was born five days late on my birthday. We checked in to the hospital at 12:15am on my birthday and I had to be reminded to write my new age….haha! In all honesty though, I’m kind of mixed on sharing a birthday. The day mostly focuses as our daughter (as it should :)). She’s only 2.5 years old. That first year we celebrated my birthday a month late. But our OB shares a birthday with one of his children and he says as they get older it gets really fun. He likes it! So, I’m trying to stay optimistic :). In any case, wishing you a smooth labor!

Either way we’re going to have super close birthdays! My family has a zillion October birthdays though so it seems fitting. My sister, dad, and I are all 1 week apart so it was birthday season but we each had our special days.

What kind of clock do you have in your bedroom?
KathEats says
It’s an Amazon Echo Spot! I just got it last month. I needed a light up alarm clock for my night stand and went down a clock research rabbit hole and ended up getting this one because 1) it can be a baby monitor with the Cloud Cam 2) I love setting the alarm with my voice each night 3) We connected our nightstand lamps with Amazon plugs so we can say “Echo Goodnight” and the light turns off (or on in the AM) with the voice. It’s can also play music, report weather, and even do videos. I really like it!!

The bed time heartburn thing totally happened it sucks! I was thinking I had genetics on my side too but here we both are! I didn’t want to turn to induction either but I did set a date at my appointment yesterday because we felt it was the best choice. I will say I have read TONS of positive stories about induction and natural labor well at least without pain meds which isn’t totally natural I know but at least that much of it still can be. Granted I googled positive induction stories so I was looking forward to it! Here’s to hoping both babies come soon and on their own!!
KathEats says
Agree. I think the key is just to do it slowly – one step at a time. Not ALL the induction techniques at once on the highest levels!
Kelli @ Hungry Hobby says
100% agree!!!!

First time commenter … I’m checking daily for baby news! I was 11 days late with my first and those were the longest days of my life. I felt like I would be the first person in history to stay pregnant forever and I’d have to go back to work and live the rest of my life eternally pregnant. My daughter is 20 now – obviously she did eventually make an appearance – but I’ve never forgotten those 11 days! I see you are making the most of your time but it’s tough living in a state of limbo. Hang in there! Also, my aunt gave birth to two children on her birthday and one on my uncle’s birthday. So for a family of 5, there are only two birth days!

Haha crazy birthday story!!

Going past the due date gets tricky! I thought for sure my second would come early too, but I was 40+4 for both actually. I’m due with #3 ( & the last-all girls!) early April. We’ll see what she decides to do in terms of coming early or late! Best of luck!!

The movie Practical Magic is awesome 🙂 I never read the book but watched the movies dozens of times when I was a teenager and college student! Put it on your list! Happy Baby Waiting!
Leslie says
WHOA WHOA WHOA are you telling us you’ve never seen Practical Magic?!
Drop what you’re doing and watch that movie. Actually maybe finish the book first then do it. That movie was a Halloween staple growing up! In fact, every year I go looking for it around this time to watch again. That sweet little town, Sandra Bullock, the lime in the coconut, ugh ok now I need to go watch.
KathEats says
I probably have seen it but don’t remember it haha!!
Ali says
Oh my gosh, you have really not seen Practical Magic??? They live in a beach house that you would just looooooooooooove!
KathEats says
I can’t wait to see it!!

You’re going to do great. Sending you good thoughts. And hopefully you won’t need it, but I had a FANTASTIC induction experience and was still able to avoid an epidural. Second baby and she came fast after I got just a whiff of pitocin. Much easier than my 30+ hours of unmedicated labor with my first. Wishing you the best!
KathEats says
That’s good to hear!
Jackie says
Hi Kath, I was induced for my second baby (8 months ago now!) and it didn’t involve any drugs. All the doctor did was break my water and things got going on their own, so don’t worry about that prospect. It was actually really really nice just walking into the hospital knowing that I was going to have my baby that day, and for me it was amazing knowing I could have an epidural whenever I was ready because I was already at the hospital. ??
KathEats says
That’s good to know! Thanks!
Karen says
Yes, I forgot to mention this is how I was induced with my last. My doctor just made a very small rupture, a leak really, in the waters, and I was able to walk around. The amniontic fluid has hormones in it that help dilate the cervix. No pitocin needed!
Tina H. says
My youngest daughter’s birthday is 1 week before mine and our anniversary is 8 days before her birthday, so March is a busy month here. I remember with her I felt a lot of pressure a week before she was born and it felt like my pubic bones were opening more. I don’t remember that with my first. I was very uncomfortable. The doctor did strip my membranes & 2 days later my water broke. No induction with either and both natural. I don’t know if it’s an old wives tale, but I had terrible heartburn with my second and she had a head full of black hair. She seriously looked like she was wearing a wig!
Wishing you the best and a smooth delivery! I know you and Thomas are over the moon!!
Amy H says
Totally thought the title of this post meant that you were eating your final 50 dates to try to induce labor at first, ha!
KathEats says
Hahahaha!!!!
Kath says
Good luck with the waiting game – so hard to be patient!! I’m preg with my first and my hope is to go without induction as well!!! Thanks for sharing your life with readers. Can’t wait to see Baby B and hear your birth story! <3

I bet you will never ever forget this birthday! At this point I think I’m rooting for 2 more days so you’ll share a birthday…I think that would be neat! Ever since we had our first, my husband always says that kids’ birthday celebrations should really be about their moms, so this way you’ll have a good excuse every year to celebrate all the hard work you did getting him here 😉

what’s that little clock thingamajig next to your bed? the colors are so pretty!

I’m sure things will happen when you least expect them. My 2nd son was born a week late and I was scheduled to be induced on a Tuesday morning and he decided at 3:30am Monday morning he was ready to come out. I actually beat my midwife to the hospital. My 2nd son’s birth was quick. I got up around 3am to pee, and just felt off, my husband was getting ready to leave for work (90mins away), when my contractions started, I didn’t time anything this go around because they were coming fast and hard. I called my midwife around 4am and she said to head into the hospital, we arrived about 4:30am (beating her there) and my son was born at 5:36am- so basically 2 hours of labor. Not bad at all he was ready to enter the world. I did have some very strong contractions Saturday night before he was born, to the point my mom felt I should of went into the hospital but they weren’t coming at a consistent timing and I was stressed out about who was going to watch my older son (the hospital made it a point to not bring siblings to the delivery room, and grandpa wasn’t there yet to watch him – I wondering if my 2nd son would of been born sooner if I wasn’t so stressed and basically was willing myself not to go into labor yet), one will never know. But I was glad labor was short and quick.
KathEats says
That is a quick labor!! I think the not knowing the where or when is the hardest part. I’m not all that uncomfortable (during the day time at least) but it’s the wondering that is mind boggling!
Kimberly Marcus says
I completely understand, but you will know when it’s time. It’s funny my mom was staying with us and was keeping watch for any signs of labor. When it finally happened I was the first one in the car, and had to go back into the house and get her and my husband moving while they were chatting and drinking coffee. This brings back some great memories of his birth. And don’t worry I didn’t have time to shower and I didn’t care.
Jessica Campbell says
I haven’t read Alice Hoffman in years but I love her! Practical Magic is great for this time of year – so spooky! Her books are good!

Hope it happens soon for you! Both mine were born on 39 +1. I swear by reflexology to induce, and watched youtubes and pressed on my own feet and ankles a ton 🙂
KathEats says
OK going to do this now 🙂

I keep checking to see if your little squish has made an appearance yet ? Today is my birthday so I kinda was hoping that today would be the day! No pressure or anything lol. Sending positive vibes your way, Kath!

I will try my hardest so you can share a birthday : ) Happy bday!!

My youngest was 11 days late–he was due end of June, and clearly was not interested in making his appearance. I was ready to schedule an induction, but was informed that BOTH my favorite, trusted doctors in our practice had gone out of town for the July 4th weekend. WHY. I decided to just wait it out until one of them got back. I was induced nearly a week after the Fourth, after enduing many, many comments about how I was “probably going to have a little firecracker on the Fourth!” Ha ha ha. Nope.
I really didn’t mind going later, honestly. Nearly all of my kids have ignored their due dates and come later, or had to be induced. I hope you can rest comfortably while you wait the arrival of your son! Enjoy your one-on-one time with Mazen while you have it. 🙂
Tracy says
Hang in there, Kath! At least you’re getting in some fun last dates!
Julie says
our first son was 10 days over due. Our second son was right on his due date which was the day that falls between mine and my husbands birthdays, so 3 birthdays 3 days in a row. And finally our daughter was born 4 days early. So as you can see I had no rhyme or reason to when I finally went into labor.

Love you guys Patagonia puffers 🙂 And so glad that fall weather finally came around so we can wear them!
