Happy Birthday, Gussie!!
Gus and Mazen are almost exactly the same age. They were born the same year, a month apart. Just another reason they are kindred spirits! Check out sweet puppy Gus:
I’m sorry I missed those puppy years, but according to this chart, Gus and I are almost the same age! Pretty cool : )
Still eating yogurt bowls with fresh fruit and granola!
I am still struggling in the salad department a bit and have been for a long time. I’ve been mixing up greens, dressings, cheeses, and toppings, but just can’t get in a groove this summer! Give me all the cooked veggies or salads in restaurants, but I just don’t love them at home. This one had spinach, carrots, peppers, homemade dressing, heirlooms, and smoked salmon.
Thomas and I made the best turbot the other night. We topped it with garlic, lemon, salt, pepper, and butter and baked it until flakey. Served with capresé salad (all day, erry day) and corn on the cob!
Have a great weekend!

I LOVE turbo fish! It’s nice and fatty and comes off the bone so nicely.

I have a 12 week old puppy, lab mix. Any suggestions from Thomas on training tips? He is in the nipping stage and my hands and arms are all chewed up! I am hoping he has a great personality (as it seems Gus does!!). Did he do classes or training sessions with anyone, or just wing it? Just curious.
KathEats says
He said to do a basic training class and be super consistent. Don’t let him chew on your hands because then they think chewing is ok!
Bauer says
Thank you!! I will definitely look into some training classes.

Awwww puppy love! But enjoy the adult years with the pup

Would you mind sharing where you found your rug? It is just what we are looking for. Thanks!
KathEats says
It’s from Pottery Barn, and I’m pretty sure it’s this one.

Love the pictures of you and Gus! He was an adorable little chunky baby. I’m with you on the salads. I love a good restaurant salad, but I just can’t get into making them at home.

Happy birthday Gus!!!
Do you ever make Greek salads? My husband and I started making them quite regularly (whatever lettuce you like, kalamata olives, tomato, cucumber, feta cheese, and red onion), and we are hooked. We never get sick of Greek salad. Just an idea if you want to switch it up 🙂
I think onions are a necessity to good salads, so we always add red or green onion. Olives and feta in salad also make me really happy.
We’re also really into roasted veggie salads (just roast whatever you like with olive oil, salt and pepper), toss with favourite salad dressing, and presto – roasted salad. They are great with chicken on top too!

Two great ideas!

As a Charlottesville native I really hope you address the rally today. You didn’t mentiom the kkk rally a few weeks ago. I know this is a lifestyle blog but this is slighted to be largest hate gathering in decades in the United States and is making international news. I live by Meade park and I know you are in the general downtown area as well. This is really close to home and it’s terrible.
KathEats says
I think it’s horrible and don’t feel safe or comfortable in my own city but I am not planning to write a dramatic post about it or participate in any of the counter protests, first for my safety and second because attention is exactly what they want.
Allison says
100% agree. I will never understand protesting the protestors….don’t even acknowledge them. That’s what they want. Stay safe at home and ignore the zealots!

Good for you. Be safe. Sending love and prayers for your beautiful city and for our poor country. So sad.
Kelly says
This may sound simple, but have you tried different lettuces? I don’t love spinach salad at home. I love romaine or butter lettuce. I also like cabbage for a good crunch. Hope you find your salad groove! And happy birthday, G!!

Couldn’t help but think of you with everything happening in Charlottesville this weekend. Hope you are safe and far away from danger.
KathEats says
Thank you – we are safe.

Hi Kath, I’m just watching the tragic news tonight and am thinking about you and hoping you’re safe. I’m a long time reader and since I’ve in Knoxville, love Charlottesville and many of the places you frequent. I am thinking about your hometown today and praying for safety. Such a sad and scary day in a beautiful city.
KathEats says
Thank you. It was a difficult day in cville <3

Happy birthday, Gus! It seems like you are enjoying having a dog in your home! I’m glad your family is safe, I thought about you when I saw the news!
Tonya says
Pup Gus was just the pic we all needed today.

I have been really into making kale beet salads at home. Lacinato kale, beets, goat cheese, some not too sweet granola, and balsamic vinaigrette- delicious!
KathEats says
That does sound good!!
