Raise your hand if you have sensitive teeth. Me, me, me! Just the thought of biting into ice-cold watermelon in the summertime should be refreshing, but it makes me shudder!! Popsicles, ice cream, any beverage with ice – all cringe-worthy! And I am not kidding when I say that I can feel a cold, windy day in my teeth!
I have found that it helps when a dentist paints on some fluoride in the office, but I need sensitive toothpaste in order to maintain the effect in between cleanings. Enter the new Tom’s of Maine Fluoride-Free Rapid Relief Sensitive Toothpaste.
After reading my post about my sensitive teeth here on the blog, Tom’s of Maine offered to send me a tube to try out. The new toothpaste uses a combination of arginine and calcium carbonate — both derived from natural sources — in order to seal the pathways to sensitive tooth nerves and to help block the pain. The stuff works – ’nuff said! It’s touted to work within 60 seconds, when rubbed directly on areas of sensitivity, which, with so many products on the market that can take weeks of cumulative effect to kick in, I found to be pretty exciting. I haven’t had an acute attack to put that method to the test, but with regular use, I have noticed that my teeth are less affected by cold. There are no artificial sweeteners, colors or flavors, and, no animal testing – thumbs up.
So while I won’t be chomping down on frozen fruit any time soon, I do want to share my favorite way to eat watermelon: with mint and honey.
I took this super simple three-ingredient watermelon salad to a party recently, and I had two people tell me that they loved the mint + melon combo.
I chopped up some of the fresh mint that is growing wildly in a wine barrel in my back yard, and added a heaped tablespoon of honey drizzled on top to balance out the bite. Yum!
Here’s the “recipe”:
-A couple of cups of watermelon balls
-About 5 mint leaves, minced
-1 tablespoon of honey
//Combine all and toss well!
So, sink your teeth into some watermelon this summer, and enter to win the Rapid Relief Sensitive Toothpaste for yourself!
Thanks to Tom’s of Maine for sponsoring this post and giveaway!

Love watermelon! Can’t wait for watermelon season too. I’ll have to try pairing it with mint, or to mix it with some basil. Yum.

Definitely ice cream or a home made Popsicle on a hot day

I’m a little confused. You say that the fluoride your dentist puts on your teeth helps with sensitivity, but now you’re using a fluoride-free toothpaste? Wouldn’t it make sense to use more fluoride, not less?

The toothpaste uses two different ingredients, so I think it’s good I’m fighting it three ways

I LOVE Tom’s toothpaste, been using it for years. I’d love to try the sensitive kind, I didn’t know they started making it.
That watermelon salad looks delish. My favorite treats are frozen watermelon (eaten carefully to avoid my sensitive front teeth), and frozen date/almond butter balls. So good and refreshing.

Free advertisement for the company 🙂 but I started using it and it has really helped, Im sticking to it. I have the same problem with eating cold things and it’s not nice when you can’t enjoy your cold fruit. I can lick my ice cream carefully but eating cold fruit always stinks and you can’t really lick it

This sounds amazing! I would never have thought to put mint with watermelon…and honey? What a genius addition! I find that my teeth are sensitive time to time when it comes to cold foods. It’s never consistent…I don’t know if that means they are getting more sensitive over time or what. Thank you for sharing this great recipe and advice 🙂

I used to have really sensitive teeth, so I know what you mean when you say you could feel a cold, windy day in your teeth. It used to be painful to even try to go to sleep at night because breathing in and out would cause cold air to go over my teeth.
I thought it was something I just had to deal with, but then my dentist recommended a toothpaste with a certain ingredient (I think he said potassium). I looked at the different toothpastes and tried Colgate Sensitive Prevent and Repair. I’m not over-reacting when I say it was a real life-changer for me. I can now eat hot or cold foods – even bite into ice cream! – without pain.
I know you’re doing a sponsored post. And I know Colgate doesn’t have the same standards of “no artificial sweeteners, colors or flavors, and, no animal testing” that you look for. But this truly was a huge change in my quality of life so I thought I’d share in case it helps someone else.
I hope Tom’s helps you out the more you use it so you can see, like me, what it’s like to have a more normal eating experience!

If you warm up the honey in the microwave for a minute, it makes it almost a simple syrup when the juice mixes with it! 🙂 Those photos were adorable with the confetti!!
