Long time favorite tea. (I think this post was the first time I had had Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride?)
Long time favorite breakfast.
How could I not!?
Your Christmas morning breakfast is served.
Start with one cup of rolled oats –
Add an 8 ounce mug of Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride tea, steeped for 4-6 minutes.
Add a cup milk
A pinch of salt
And sprinkles of cinnamon, ground cloves and nutmeg.
Because bananas were not involved, I added a teaspoon of maple syrup for a little sweetness. And a teaspoon of vanilla for an extra punch of aromatic flavor.
Set your heat to medium-low and stir, stir, stir. Do not stop stirring until your oatmeal is thick and creamy.
Pour into a bowl and top with coconut butter and toasted almonds. Coconut flakes too if you like! And while we’re at it, crushed gingerbread cookies would rock too.

Celestial Seasonings is king of holiday teas. Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride is my favorite of the holiday teas, but Candy Cane Lane and Gingerbread Spice are also perfect for this time of year. (See the whole list here!) Sip them. Cook with them. Put them in stockings. Gift them. Serve them on Christmas morning, steaming hot. Their teas are the perfect way to share the “warmth” of the holiday season with your loved ones. ( <—heh heh!) Oh, and on the topic of tea Caitlin recently made cupcakes with Candy Cane Lane!

First off, I LOVE you nails!!! What nail polish is that!? Secondly, sugar cookie sleigh ride is one of my favorite teas! I can only imagine it would add delicious flavor to a bowl of oats. Must try this!

It’s an Essie gray with sparkles glitter on top!
Shana says
I just bought sugar cookie sleigh ride for the first time this year and I can’t get enough! What a great idea putting it into oatmeal. The ultimate cozy breakfast!
Linda @ The Fitty says
Does it actually taste like sugar cookie slight ride, or is the flavour too faint? I’d love to try this!
(Does it contain any added sugars, by the way? The tea, not the oatmeal itself!)
KathEats says
The flavor does come through! No sweeteners in the tea.
Lindsey @ Simply Lindsey says
That oatmeal looks so creamy! Does the constant stirring make it that way?
KathEats says
Yes!
Mom says
Wow. I never thought of making oatmeal with tea. This is a must try! Sounds delicious.
Cathy says
neither did I. good suggestion.
meredith @ The Cookie ChRUNicles says
Just the other day I thought about doing this as I drank this tea! How funny.
Paula says
Using tea to make oatmeal is so simple, but I never would have thought to do that. I’ve got a cocoa mint mate at home that might make for a nifty twist. And now I’m hungry for second breakfast.
Allison says
I’ve been so curious to try their holiday teas, but I’m nervous that I won’t like them. Their flavors sound so delicious. I just don’t know how that translates to tea. Guess I should just try it!
Sam @ PancakeWarriors says
Oh yum! I make Similar oats with chia tea and pumpkin. Will certainly have to try this!
Amanda @ Slimplify Life says
I feel like I can smell this through my computer, looks amazing!!

I brought some Caramel Apple Dream to work today that I bought at the beginning of fall. I’m up for anything that tastes like the holidays 🙂

I am curious as an RD why the nutritionals are not posted with your recipes? I would love to see how this recipes look from the nutritional side of things. thanks!
KathEats says
The more I learned about nutrition the more I decided that quality was more important than quantity. Thus, I don’t count fat grams, protein or carbs but focus on eating a diverse diet full of real food. While portion size does matter (especially for weight loss), I put my focus on ingredients and listening to your body. It’s fairly easy to calculate nutrition stats in calculators like these, so I leave that up to those who are interested to do. Thanks for asking!

Thank you so much for this, it is refreshing to read.
Alex @ get big, go to work says
This oatmeal looks delicious! I love a hot bowl of oatmeal on a chilly morning. If only we could stay cuddled up under the covers too 😀 coconut butter on top sounds amazing. I can eat that stuff by the spoonful!
Cara's Healthy Cravings says
I love the Candycane and the Gingerbread but have not spotted the sugar cookie flavour here in Ontario….I will keep my eyes peeled, it sounds delish!
Hannah @ eat, drink and save money says
I love the idea of cooking with tea! So much fun. Personally I think some cookie butter would go well with this one, even if it wouldn’t be the healthiest. I’m really enjoying the Celestial Seasoning posts you’ve done. What a fun partnership!
KathEats says
Cookie butter would be awesome on top!
Tracy says
Celestial Seasonings holiday teas are my favorite teas! I really like the new Caramel Apple one, too. I hoard them this time of year!
Gosh it was fun to read that old post!! I’ve been reading since back then 🙂
KathEats says
That is crazy and I heart you!

I was so stoked to try this tea because I usually like Celestial Seasonings, but I’ve been so disappointed with it. I’ve tried it so many ways, double bagged, sugared, straight, with cream. No matter what I do it just tastes like water to me even though it smells great. So I checked Steepster (tea review site) and found folks seem pretty strongly divided on this tea. They either adore it, or think it tastes like water. So interesting! Kind of like how you either love cilantro or think it tastes like soap!
Anyway, I’m jealous you get to enjoy sugar cookie flavor in tea form!
KathEats says
I can see that. I think some 2% milk makes a huge difference in flavor and body
Whitney of WorthyStyle says
That sounds delicious! I will definitely have to try this combination out!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
What an awesome idea to use tea in oatmeal! I would have never thought to do that!

I am vegan and I cook my oatsmeal with tea (or apple juice).
Thank you, Kath, for sharing this recipe.

I saw this tea at the store the other day and thought… I wonder what a Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride tastes like? I love tea.. maybe I’ll have to try.
Sagan says
Neat idea!
Kind of distracted by HOW PRETTY your nails are, though 😉
KathEats says
Haha thanks!

I can’t wait for breakfast, so I think I’m going to make this for dinner, haha. I would have never in my life thought of this, but it sounds amazing! I love your little mug bowls too!
Wanda says
This sounds wonderful! Do you think the tea/milk combo would work for overnight oats?
KathEats says
I don’t see why not!
KL says
Wow. I never thought of making oatmeal with tea either, very clever
Dani @ DaniCaliforniaCooks says
I’m reading about this on my very cold and rainy business trip and I definitely think oatmeal is in order tomorrow morning! Can’t wait to try and recreate this recipe when I’m back at home.

Hey Kath,
Thanks for the fun recipe! I was also wondering where you got your beautiful pottery? We’re collectors in our house, always on the lookout for new “functional art”. 🙂
KathEats says
this one is from a market in Asheville North Carolina. I got it many years ago but it is very cute 🙂
Sara Caldwell says
This is not a criticism just a question! I am a bit cautious of how this tea could be all natural and I remember that you visited their facility (I think?) so do you know what Natural Sugar Cookie Flavoring actually is?
KathEats says
I don’t, but I will email them and ask!
Chelsea @ Designs on Dinner says
This looks tasty, but ever since my mom opened up a tea business, I can’t go back to bagged tea. It’s loose leaf all the way for me! I have used her chai to make oatmeal before, which was wonderful. This post has inspired me to try one of her holiday flavors….
Blair @ The Seasoned Mom says
This looks delicious! I have all of the ingredients just waiting for me in my pantry, so I’ll definitely be whipping this up soon. Love that tea! Pinned!
Anne says
We have different flavours of celestial seasonings here in Canada, but I really love incorporating the Sugar Plum Fairy one into recipes. So yummy – can’t wait to try it with oatmeal…topped with biscoff spread of course!
