Today my goal is to move in slow motion. Yesterday was such a whirlwind I was all hot and bothered all day!
Here’s me cooling off with a smoothie to start!
A Raspberry Blackberry Purple Bomb with Rise + Roll bakery’s Maple Granola and a blob of the world’s finest nut butter
Simma Down Smoothie
- 1 cup frozen black + rasp
- 1 small super ripe banana (I’ve been eating black ones all week!)
- 1 cup milk
- 2 big spoonfuls raw rolled oats
–> Granola
–> Sunflower butter
Cool coffee
I’m taking today off of formal exercise other than my 40 minutes of biker commuting. In this heat, I’d say that counts as one sweaty workout!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
I love the simplicity of your smoothie! Stay cool and have a great day!
Lisa @ Sunny Seed Stories says
Maybe some Tai Chi as well 😉
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
Yes — it has been so hot here too that just walking to get the mail is a super sweat-fest!
I love the white bowl you are using here!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Stay cool! it is going to be soo humid in my city today too. It is supposed to feel like 49 C with all our humidity… ( that like 120 farenheit!!)
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
That linen is beautiful!
I love that you called this smoothie a “bomb” – I posted a Butternut Squash Smoothis “bomb” today. They taste better when they have cool names. 🙂
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
Purple smoothies have my heart. Love the look of it! 🙂
~
Hope says
I love the purple smoothie! My favorite color! 😉 I hate this heat! Stay cool!
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
It must have been the day yesterday; I was definitely hot and bothered alllll day long, it was driving the husband (Matt!) nuts! ….I feel sorry for us, wait. Maybe I should feel sorry for our Matts!
Here’s to a happy day, Kath! 🙂
Molly @ RDexposed says
What makes it a bomb? Blows all other smoothies out of the water..? haha
KathEats says
Just the coolness of it 🙂
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Um. yes a 40 minute bike ride is surely enough in this heat! Up in the northeast we have warnings all over the place. Heat index of 105 today.. hotter tomorrow. GO AWAY HEAT!
kaila @ healthy helper! says
I have been eating ssb with my smoothies lately, either in or on top, and it has quickly beocme my FAVORITE nut butter to eat with smoothies! So delish!
Lauren at Keep It Sweet says
Such a pretty smoothie:-) Have a great day!
Krissy @ Shiawase Life says
Early bird post! 🙂 I am gonna try and slow down today, too. I felt soo tired this morning.
Erika @ The Teenage Taste says
Biking is no joke! I don’t know how long your commute is but whenever I bike over 8 miles I feel it the next day! 😛
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
Phew I think you’ll sweat plenty on that bike ride!
katie @KatieDid says
I really love that bowl for some reason, so simple and cute how it sits up. Hopefully you can stay cool today, I was sick from the humidity yesterday which wasn’t fun. You must have AC in the bakery yes?
KathEats says
yes, but it’s only at 80* – have to keep the bread warm!
Sarah @ Sarah's Modern Bites says
I love those pictures of your purple smoothies! Definitely the prettiest smoothies I think. That table cloth with the limes on it is so charming.. it makes me think of a beach hose for some reason… no clue why haha
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
We are getting a heat wave here in Ontario too, but I’m not complaining because I’m sure it’ll be gone before we know it! Looks like a very refreshing brekkie!
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
A 40 min bike ride is indeed!! exercise. In the heat no less!
And these pics are gorg! I hope you plan on submitting. I am thinking based on the food styling and nice lil touches you added, you are. Good 🙂
KathEats says
I did!
Jennifer and Jaclyn @ sketch-free vegan says
Frozen fruit + fresh banana makes the BEST smoothie consistency. I made a frozen papaya-banana smoothie this morning. Amazing!
Diana says
Mmmm looks like raspberry choco-chip ice cream! Now THAT is a brekkie I can get down with!
Angie says
You must be getting our Minnesota heat wave! We had record all-time highs this week with heat index of almost 130!!!! I went for just a 5 mile bike-ride and called that my workout one day because its so hot you can barely breathe! Stay cool.
kate says
ohh your smoothie looks fabulous I love the sunflower butter on top it makes everything amazing!
Nikita says
I love the linen in this picture! It looks great with the green mug and green handled spoon, and makes the vibrantly colored smoothie really pop!
Cait's Plate says
I’m with you 150%. Just existing in this weather is a work out in and of itself. I chose (stupidly) to take yesterday as my “workout free” day – I’m not sure what I was thinking. Though luckily my gym is in my building so I didn’t even have to go outside to get to it!
That smoothie looks wonderful – I wish we were next door neighbors so I could just pop by for the extras 😉
Angela (Oh She Glows) says
That smoothie looks amazing! Beautiful pics.
I had a big smoothie this morning too….so hot out!
Sarah@The Flying ONION says
That is my kind of breakfast.
And just look at your little white breakfast bowl. How cute is that?? 😀
Margo @ peanut butter trees says
A beauty of a smoothie, and love the green theme of the mug and place mat. Yeah, it’s so hot out I think we’re all burning plenty of calories just walking around and sweating it out!
Khushboo says
That Smoothie is too pretty to eat 🙂
Connie says
Hi Kath –
Guess what the UPS man just dropped off?! CVILLE Cluster Granola! It gets better…I just finished mixing up my own smoothie for breakfast. Guess I need to pour it in a bowl (SIAB) and top it with some of this yumminess. Thank you!
KathEats says
YAYYYYY!
Alicia @culinarybliss says
I hate asking this question, but where are the bowls from? 🙂 Are they oven safe? I’m looking for some for soups/mini casseroles (and trying not to think too hard about fall!)
KathEats says
I’m not sure – it was a gift from Gram
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I love that spoon! I bet that would be good to scrape nut butter jars with 🙂
J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says
That’s a cool way to kick off the day. Stay that way! 🙂
Sara says
Sunflower seed butter is the BEST! 😀
Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Do you add the sunflower seed butter for the taste or nutritional value? I feel like I can learn a lot from you– eating things because of their nutrients and not just taste.
KathEats says
99% of what i eat is the taste!! And how it makes me feel. I do eat sardines for their nutrition, but they are also tasty
lynn @ the actor's diet says
nothing like a super ripe banana! mine just started turning brown!
Stephanie @ StephSnacks says
oooh! this smoothie in particular looks really, really good! and I’d definitely say 40 minutes of commuter biking is a great workout.
Casey @ Pocket Full of Sunshine says
I am eating my own SIAB as I type :). I’m really impressed with all your biking–definitely counts!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I’d say 40 minutes of biking IS almost formal exercise! Stay cool!
Cait @ Cait hates Cake says
I would probably count any bike ride as exercise! That smoothie is so bright! Lovely!
Laura @ Cookies vs. Carrots says
That smoothie looks delicious! I think I overheated during my run this morning, and I can simply not cool down!
rumfunandsun says
My post was about relative miles with the heat! I am a firm believer in small mileage equaling more when its hot and humid. At least that’s what I tell myself so I can sleep at night! 😉
karin (allpointswhole) says
Oh how I miss my smoothies! My smoothie maker broke…
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
Yum! Looks like purple soup 🙂
Molly says
Just wondering, what kind of milk do you drink/use in oats and stuff? Do you use skim or go for a different percentage? As an RD what is your reccomendation?
KathEats says
My favorite is 1%. I like a little fat in there for satiety and nutrition. I occasionally get 2% because I like it. But I hate skim! I think whole milk is a bit too much fat
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I love such pretty smoothies for b-fast!!
Jennifer says
Definitely stay cool! It’s going to be a scorcher for a few days.
That’s funny that you like the bananas black. I know a few people who purposely let them get that way before they eat them. I’m picky, though. The minute I see one spot, I can’t eat it. (haha) They have to be completely yellow. 🙂
Amanda says
okay since you are taking off, i’ll take off too! 🙂
Shannon @ My Place In The Race says
Smoothies have definitely become my go to breakfast in this heat. Yours looks delicious! 😛 Stay cool and have a great day!
VeggieGirl says
I agree- biking in this heat IS a work out! I love your smoothie in a bowl breakfast idea! I’ve been living on smoothies as I got my wisdoms out this past week!
Heather @ Get Healthy With Heather says
Biking totally counts as a workout! If you sweat, then you workout 🙂
That smoothie looks fantastic!
Ashley says
Purple = preTTy!!! Good luck with your slow motion day….I’m not so good at those, haha.
Kate @ NaturaStride says
That looks so good right now.
Everyone should take a rest day (or more-relaxed day!) from workouts today! It’s much too hot. I walked 2 miles to work (no bike – sad!) and I was a sweaty mess by the time I got here!
Enjoy the day…
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
I should’ve made this for breakfast today! It’s so hot out that there are heat warnings all across the province!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
I can’t imagine how it must feel over there! And this one looks like a WINNER smoothie!!
Lexi @ A Spoonful of Sunshine says
That smoothie looks so refreshing! Is there any particular purpose to adding oats into the mix?
KathEats says
It adds a doughiness to them – also, some complex carbs
Lexi @ A Spoonful of Sunshine says
Ahh, that sounds delicious!
Sorry for the newbie question 🙂
Victoria @ The Pursuit of Hippieness says
Ughh the heat is killer up in the NYC area too… I walked outside this morning, rolled out my yoga mat, did one sun salutation and rolled it right back up again to bask in the comfort of my AC 🙂
Hannah says
I love, love, love super purple smoothies from berries! Bananas are still $15 a kilo here though 🙁
Shana says
Everyone makes fun of me because I love the black bananas! They are so creamy and sweet!
The Healthy Engineer says
So many pretty colors!!
Lindsay says
I’d say that counts as 2 workouts!! Don’t ever beat yourself up too much for not getting out for more workouts in this summer heat:) I’ve been pounding the pavement everyday here and trying to squeeze in an extra workout…and somedays it just can’t happen…too tired!
Kelly (meatless with a man) says
love that bowl! so pretty
