What’s with the orange juice? The cereal? The mac n cheese?
In fact, why is there cheese in every meal I eat?
There was popcorn and gelato for lunch one day. Multiple bagels with cream cheese.
And perhaps most obvious: where are all the vegetables?!
Why have some of my posts seemed so aloof they elicit a round of comment complaints?
Why did I claim sickness for a few days?
Why am I obsessed with an appliance that makes breakfast for me?
Why are my jeans so TIGHT!?
Why does my stomach still turn when I think about this lentil soup?
And why is there beer all around me but not a drop to drink?
……………because the bread menu is going to change late this summer. A new loaf is rising.
Surprise!?
Jane says
So happy for you two! Congratulations!

Congrats! I was wondering 🙂
Katie says
Congrats Kath & Matt! I almost made a comment recently after reading one of your posts about the possibility of you being pregnant. How exciting! Hope you will continue to blog frequently and share as much as you are comfortable sharing. I have a 5 and a 6 year old and I loved being pregnant and being a mom. Hope you are feeling well, congratulations again!
Katie says
I had to look back and it was the posts around January 10 that I remember thinking that you had a pregnant glow in the picture of you at your friends’ house for dinner. You also posted about not feeling well and ordering pizza because their was nothing in the house that sounded good. Thanks for giving us subtle hints, I look forward to reading you blog first every morning!
KathEats says
You are the second person to comment on my glow – that is so strange!! It must really exist!
Katie says
All the hormonal changes, some good some not so good, but definitely all worth it for such a wonderful, amazing, precious little one. There are days that I wouldn’t mind being pregnant again and adding another child to our happly little family, but I think we are done. Have you decided if you are going to find out the gender?
KathEats says
Yes, definitely
Katie says
Sorry for all of the comments, I’m just so excited for you! We didn’t find out the gender with our first (a girl) but when we became pregnant (by choice) when she was only 3 months old, we decided we would find out. Although my husband didn’t want to tell anybody the gender so we kept it a secret until he was born. My friend just revealed that they are having a girl with pink cream filled cupcakes at the shower.
Carolyn @ AdMEYERingLife says
Enjoy the glow! I’m 12 weeks and the only thing glowing on me are all the pimples. Thank you, hormones. LOL Congratulations and look forward to following your journey.
Yasmine says
Félicitations (congratulations)!

Megan S says
Aw, so sweet from your mom, you guys seem like such a close family, you must be so excited!
Kath I left what I thought was a thoughtful compliment comment recently and was surprised to see a huge spike in the traffic of my tiny little blog. It was from a very negative sight and I was shocked at the harsh criticism of people! I thought your more private posts may have stemmed from that and I’m thrilled for you that there is such a more joyous reason! A thousand congratulations to you both:)
jen_alluisi says
Woooooo!!!! Mucho many congratulations!!!

Congratulations-I have not commented previously, but I enjoy your blog-the look, the fun, the food. I hadn’t noticed all of the negative comments about your previous post–and the fact that you re-linked to them demonstrates your integrity. You seem like a stand-up person to me-that comes across in your writing and I appreciate it.
KathEats says
Thanks Denise, what a lovely compliment
Lynda says
I agree also! I couldn’t believe all the negative comments. I think it’s great that you post so often when other bloggers don’t even update on a daily basis. I always learn something from your postings. You’re right in telling people if they want something different to go find another blog!
Shannon says
I agree! I could not BELIEVE that people would say those things. They should just stop reading your blog – no need for a nasty comment! I love reading your blog on a daily basis and am thankful that you are able to do this as your job – it benefits so many people! 🙂
Jenny says
Same here! Your blog was the first I ever started following faithfully, and I still look forward to your posts and pictures every day! I love the recipe ideas and slices of your life, but most of all, I appreciate your positive, common-sense perspective. It’s so easy to over-analyze and criticize our bodies, our choices, or whatever it is that we get down on ourselves about, but you do a great job of focusing on enjoying life and living it right! Always an encouragement. Keep doing what you’re doing!
And congrats on your pregnancy!!! You and Matt are going to be such awesome parents! Enjoy every minute.
Jen says
I agree with Denise. One thing that does come across in your posts is your love for what you do. You recognize you have a great job and appreciate it and don’t take it for granted.
SO HAPPY FOR THE BOTH OF YOU!! (and totally creative way to announce it!)
Vicky says
Congratulations!! I have never commented before either but I just wanted to say that I was shocked by all of the negative comments. Don’t let them bother you-there are TONS of us who love your blog just the way it is. Congrats again, and enjoy this time!!!
Mel says
I just read some of the negative comments you linked to and I am shocked at how cruel some people are! yeah, sometimes I get bored reading about oatmeal or whatever a blogger ate, but if I wanted to I could skip that post or skim through it. No one makes people read each post or your blog. I for one love it! I did notice the lack of veggies and knew something was up! Sometimes veggies make me gag too and I’m not pregnant! haha. Keep up the great work- You and matt will be amazing parents.
Courtney@Translating Nutrition says
Completely agree with you Denise! I had missed all the negative comments before, and they frankly shocked me. People can be really nasty behind the anonymity that their computer provides. I would love to see them try to say those things to your face. Keep up the great blog, I love reading it!
Maria @ Sinfully Nutritious says
I agree, I must have read that post before the comments started (I never miss a post)! Very disappointing, I think your blog is wonderful for exactly what it is. Keep smiling and don’t let anyone get you down. By the way, you are glowing!

Mom says
What’s funny is when I was pregnant with Kath’s sister I couldn’t stand even the thought of cheese.
crystal says
That was probably a good thing, I have been dealing with pregnancy induced stuffy nose and the dairy sure isn’t helping! I am so excited for them and for you and your husband, my parents and in-laws are so happy too!
Mom says
Congratulations to you and all the moms to be! So exciting, despite the nose.
Jane says
Are you going to have full custody of the bears now? 😉 Congrats to the whole family!

Yayyyy! Congratulations! I’ve been a daily reader since 2007 (but never comment) and am so happy for you! I had been been expecting this announcement in the past few months but the beers/wines in the background of your recent posts tricked me 🙂
KathEats says
I know that would be the #1 giveaway, so I had to keep them in somehow!
Stacey says
That tricked me, too! Congrats guys! Enjoy…
Stephanie says
I KNEW IT!!! I am pregnant too right now and thought your posts about being sick and eating mac & cheese and having more cereal lately was suspicious (just like how I was feeling around the time I found out!). Also, I just read through some of the nasty comments people read and I am sorry to see how rude people can be. Honestly, I have enjoyed reading your blog from the beginning and still enjoy reading it today, despite the gradual changes to the content style. I too read it mostly because I think you have an interesting life, I enjoy reading about the bakery (since one of my dreams used to be owning a bakery…took a hospitality management/business class and that changed real quick, hahaha), and I am planning on doing a dietetic internship in the near future so I love to see what projects you use your RD for. I think it is good you referred those people to new blogs…honestly, a lot of the HLB are boring or full of posts made by uneducated individuals who visited wikipedia and copy/pasted various things. I’d rather wait every few days/weeks for a legit post from you than read 15 poorly executed HLBs 🙂
Gretchen says
Congrats!! I have been a reader of yours since 2008 (just don’t comment much), and I’m so excited for you! I had a feeling you were going to publish this post soon ;). Looking forward to this new chapter!

sarah says
Congrats! I love following all these pregnant bloggers! It’s so much fun to relive the experience!
Kelly says
Kath, I found your blog when I posted on fb about Great Harvest openIng here in cville. You see, I had a newborn at the time and rarely got out! Just stumbled on GH when I was getting out from cabin fever! I’ve been a reader ever since. I love to read blogs to pass the time as I watch my baby play. I’ve always wondered what would happen to KERF if you got preggo and were stuck at home like i was! Lol. Whatever you decide to do, just know that your readers will understand (and some will not). Parenting is the most important thing we can do, and your life really does a 180. Regardless, Bambino has great parents. And I, for one, wouldn’t be upset if your blog turned from food to parenting woes! Blessings!
KathEats says
🙂 HOPEFULLY we can walk strollers together!?
Kelly says
But of course! We live by Riverside park, and it’s a great paved path for strollers. You’ll have to research which stroller(s) you want. It can be overwhelming. Heard of the “Baby Bargains” book? Amazon it RIGHT now.

Oh my gosh, you just made this pregnant woman (28 weeks) tear up. Haha. I love your blog and am so happy for you. Cheese and juice/fruit really taste good to me, especially in that first trimester. Your diet looks so nutritious, despite what is probably a wonky appetite. As for comment complaints, not sure how you got them, your posts are always so full and look like you’ve spent a lot of time on them. Anyways, congratulations!

Kath, first of all, huge congratulations!! That is such happy news. 😀
I popped over here after reading a tweet from Caitlyn. Then I followed some of the links on this post. All I can say (re: the disgruntled comments) is Wow. . . I’m my mouth is still agape. People sure do get nasty sometimes! Talk about chutzpah, and especially since these complaints are over something they get for FREE. (And I’m totally impressed by how well you handled the naysayers, too). Congrats on that front, as well! 🙂

Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio says
Congratulations Kath! I am so happy for you and your hubby! What wonderful news.
Karissa says
A bun in the oven!! Haha what a great way to unveil such exciting news 🙂 Congratulations to you and Matt! (and as a side note, I rarely read the comments and seeing such hostile ones from a few weeks ago is just upsetting. I commend you for handling it so professionally… I can’t say I would have been as strong.)
Dad & PePaw says
VERY EXCITING KATH & KANZ — like I didn’t know already 😉 Still the public announcement makes it seem ever more real. Now my main worry is the name: no naming the baby like you name your breads, especially given how you’ve chosen to introduce your “new loaf rising”. No “Rosemary Garlic Younger-Monson” or “Pesto Parmesan Swirl Y-M” or even “Popeye Raison-eye Y-M”. I’m OK with “Dakota Savannah Y-M”, I guess.
KathEats says
Hahaha. Dakota Savannah has a nice ring!
Hillary B says
YAY!! KERFBABY!!! (kerfby?) So happy for you both, and I can’t wait to hear all the updates!!

Congrats!!! This will change your lives and your posts and I am looking forward to reading all about it!! 🙂
Gabrielle says
Kath, Congratulations! I appreciated your link back to some reader complaints. I usually only skim the comments, and am mostly surprised by how many you respond to! I don’t care to participate in the specifics of the dialogue regarding the content of your blog. However, I have to say that reading those comments stirred up one of my biggest pet peeves about people, myself included. Why do we waste so much time and effort criticizing things that are so far removed from us. We all seem so concerned that everyone, bloggers, politicians, athletes, celebrities, and on and on behave as we wish. Why get so personal about people we only know impersonally? If you don’t like a blog, don’t read it. If you don’t like a restaurant, don’t eat at it. If you don’t like a book, put it down. Basically, change your own behavior and don’t expect everyone to change for you. This is something I work on everyday.
Best of luck on this next chapter in your life!

Okay, I JUST read the complaints. I hadn’t seen it before because I tend to ignore comments – I don’t come to this blog to read them after all. And . . . I really hope the commenter that asked what you were doing to take better care of yourself eats her words. That’s all I have to say on that.

I have been reading your blog for years, but I hardly ever comment. Your blog was actually the first blog I ever read!I have seriously been waiting for this to happen! Haha. I’m so excited for you! I read Emily’s blog too, and whenever I read it, I think, “I can’t wait until I get to read about this stuff on Kath’s blog too!” I hope that doesn’t sound creepy. I just can’t wait until the day I become a mother and I LOVE reading about other peoples’ journeys. Also, I just read some of the horrible comments that people wrote on that other post, and i’m sorry for how that must have made you feel. I love your blog and I enjoy looking at it every day. Don’t change a thing! I enjoy your blog for so many reasons. I have learned so much from you and I even got a Shark to clean my floors because your review was so good. Anna W. says
Dear Kath, I am a loyal reader but a rare commenter b/c of a young baby who takes most of my attention 🙂 A friend of mine texted me today and said “go read your blogs” and I immediately thought – Kath is pregnant! Weird, I felt like a crazy person…I looked and – low and behold – congratulations (mazal tov as I would say, lol). Having recently given birth to a baby boy – I can assure you – the best is yet to come. I had a sense from your posts you were pregnant as your food choices had small hints of what I was eating during my 1st trimester, too. Of course I am dying for more info (moms stick together and support eachother – it is amazing) and want to know when you’re due (how many weeks) and of course how you’re feeling. If you’ve been feeling queasy – all of my nausea left at week 15 and I was able to eat normally (after weeks and months of no veggies). My husband is a pediatrician and we both agree my first part of pregnancy diet of chicken soup and cereal with ICE cold milk did not have an impact on the baby (for what we can tell) – as it was a major departure from my normal eating! I really am (despite not knowing you) so excited for you and know you’ll make a wonderful, creative and loving mom. Can’t wait to watch your pregnancy develop. Many best wishes…and be sure to enjoy this time. It is all up from here! Just wait…and that baby of yours is gonna be gorgeous! As for all of the negativity, I hope people will lay off you now…typically I find that people are very kind to those who are (at least visably) pregnant and with young babies. Bake away! In both senses…XX

Ah, CONGRATS!!!
Emily says
Congratulations, Kath and Matt! What a blessing, although I’m sure you’re tired of being sick!!! i know this happy pregnancy post is no place to bring the negative comments on the previous blog post up, but my heart kind of hurt thinking about you reading those unkind words when you were going through such a rough (but exciting) time. It’s a true testament to your positive spirit (and the reason WHY I read your blog) that you have never publicly let the negative stuff get you down. Even with the whole Marie Claire drama, you took the high road. It’s why you’re successful as a blogger and a big reason I know you’ll be an awesome mama. Best wishes for a smooth and healthy pregnancy. I can’t wait to continue reading about your journey!
Rebecca says
OH my goodness, how absolutely exciting!! I can’t wait to follow your baby-baking journey 🙂 Congratulations mama!!!!
Jill in Chicago says
Congrats!
I really hope this doesn’t turn into a Mommy Blog. I stopped reading Daily Garnish and Healthy Tipping Point because I could care less about seeing pictures of stomachs and what size fruit or vegetable the baby is (soooo boring.)
Second, I have to say that as someone who hopes to someday have a plant-based pregnancy, I’m disappointed by the lack of vegetables and increase of cheese and junk food. Maybe that’s just a first trimester thing? I would hope that you can show readers how to eat healthfully while pregnant!
Finally I hope this is viewed more as ‘unsolicited feedback’ about what a reader wants to see and less as a negative comment. (If I find KERF doesn’t suit me, I’ll find another blog to read, don’t worry.)
OntarioGirl says
It bothers me that you say you’re “disappointed” in her lack of vegetables. I, too, wanted to make sure I ate lots of veggies when I got pregnant but you don’t realize until you ARE pregnant how unappetizing the thought of veggies can be, especially in the first trimester. When it literally turns your stomach to think about eating a vegetable, I’d like to see you stick to your “plant based” diet. Getting ANY nutrients for the baby is better than eating nothing so you learn to eat what sounds good.
Also, Daily Garnish and Healthy Tipping Point BOTH still write about things other than their pregnancies/babies. Did you think all of these mid-twenties, married women bloggers were NEVER going to have kids…or if they did they were NEVER going to talk about it on a blog based on their life? I think it’s the natural cycle of life and would be strange if they didn’t.
Just my 2 cents…I hope Kath shares every detail of her pregnancy along with her food because the majority of noters on this post seem VERY interested in hearing about it!
Jill in Chicago says
I didn’t say that I never expected them to not have children. My point is that if I want to read a pregnancy or baby-related blog, I would go seek one out. The content and photos just doesn’t interest me as much anymore. (I read healthy living blogs to be inspired to eat better myself, and often it is difficult to be inspired when someone eats ice cream for dinner, for example. That’s just me and my priorities.)
Also I’ll keep you posted on the success of my diet when/if I’m pregnant in the next 5 years 🙂
OntarioGirl says
Ok I kind of see your point but I think the weird food posts (ie..ice cream for dinner and less veggies) will be a temporary thing. I personally like the different dimensions a baby adds to all of these bloggers’ blogs but I guess that’s why we all have different opinions..I think it would be hard for a baby NOT to change the content of the blog in some way because it is such a huge life changing event.
I guarantee you if/when you get pregnant, in the first few weeks you will choose a box of kraft dinner over a salad! Wait and see 🙂
Courtney says
Unfortunately, I stopped reading Daily Garnish as well after she had her baby. I enjoyed the posts leading up to the birth (very informative for me because I do not have children) but afterwards I found it wasn’t something I wanted to read about on her blog or on twitter.
I am eager for Kath and Matt though! Congrats you two!
Jen says
I second that i hope this doesnt become a mommy blog!!!
KathEats says
Geez Jill. I was going to ask too – have you ever been pregnant? I definitely did not stop eating vegetables by choice – broccoli would literally make me throw it back up. Considering I didn’t want to look at lettuce for weeks, I’ve been pretty proud of the veggies that I have gotten down mixed into things.
Kori says
For the first time in several years, I got sick while in Costa Rica with my family last summer. It did not last long, BUT I actually could hardly stomach pecans (which I adore!), and cucumber made me sick just looking at it. I craved simple carbohydrates and protein, such as egg and cheese. Whenever I would was sick to my stomach as a child, my mom always gave me saltines and toast. My point here is that when we are ill either from the flu or from pregnancy, our intricate body’s do in some ways know what is needed at that time. I’m not saying for us to be completely intuitive and disregard certain foods, but if you are having a difficult time eating vegetables, that’s no problem at all!! You have an entire pregnancy to eat plenty of vegetables. 🙂 Also, I am currently in my second semester of grad school for my M.S. in Public Health Nutrition, and we discussed in my Maternal and Child Health class that the primary energy for a growing fetus is straight glucose, which I know as an R.D. you are likely well-aware of that. 🙂 Congratulations again!! I support you 100% if you choose to weave your first-time pregnancy experience in this blog, similar to what Emily chose to do. I find it fascinating, and I love your blog!!
Jo says
@Jill — I echo the others’ replies on this point. If you’re having nausea in the first trimester, bland food is all you can stomach. I ate lots of toast with butter, saltines, roast potatoes. During this time, your plant-based goal is pretty hard to reach, as any pregnant woman can tell you.
Jessica says
Ugh! How you would expect people NOT to take this as a negative comment when you start by bashing other pregnant bloggers? Heaven forbid someone be excited and want to post about her growing baby, whether by comparing it to a fruit or vegetable or just through photos.
I also *love* when people who have never been pregnant complain about what pregnant people eat. Believe me, everyone has really high hopes about eating well, and then they actually experience the nausea and food aversions. Some days, a cheese sandwich is all you feel like eating.
Perhaps next time you want to offer “unsolicited feedback” you’ll think about your tone. You just sound kind of crabby.
JessicaE says
Jill, this is an extremely ignorant comment. Have you ever been pregnant?? You have No Idea what morning sickness is like… I couldn’t stomach a single vegetable except for potatoes, raw or cooked. And I am a huge vege eater and a very healthy eater. You have no choice when you have morning sickness but to listen to your body and eat whatever it will allow you to eat. Forcing yourself to eat things you can’t stomach only cause worse nausea, vomiting, dehydration and not getting ANY food/nutrients to your baby.
I should feel bad because at times the only things I could stomach in the first 8 weeks were plain tortillas, tortilla chips, dry cereal, occasional fruit and *GASP* plain hamburgers from Burger King? Screw that. I did the best I could with how horrible I felt. Come back here and comment when you know what the heck you are talking about.
Sorry so long and so angry, but with an eating disorder in the past I DID have issues with the things I had to eat in the first trimester just to get things in me… and even now with how much I must eat. New moms have enough guilt and worry without uneducated people like you judging them. I got over the guilt… don’t speak of what you don’t understand, Jill, you just made yourself look terribly ignorant, and quite foolish. 🙁
Jill in Chicago says
Oh my, I did not mean to cause a kerfuffle. I guess next time I have a comment (compliment or not) I will keep it to my ignorant, selfish self. I hope you all have a great day!
Marianne says
“kerfuffle”
oh please, lol, yes, you did too mean to cause a ruckus. Pretty sure your trolling had the exact effect you wanted. How lame.
Erin says
Jill… For the last two years, I have been eating extrememly healthily, lost over 100 lbs, and exercised daily. I worked hard and loved my new lifestyle. When we finally got pregnant, I had all of the same preconceived notions that you did about eating a mainly plant based diet. However, those plans mean nothing when morning sickness and terrible food aversions kick in. My first trimester, vegetables make me nauseous. I even tried forcing myself to eat them (salads, steamed, juiced, etc…), and all that caused was vomiting. I craved fruits and grains, but couldn’t handle yogurt, vegetables, or much meat. I am so excited to follow Kath on her journey. Shame on anyone who finds this as the time to criticize her food choices.
Michelle R. Perez says
If you wont read it… WE will. 🙂
Jill in Chicago says
Everyone, I am truly sorry, and realize I should not comment on something I have not experienced myself. As I explained to Kath, this morning I finished a class in plant-based nutrition and was feeling quite empowered (too big for my britches) in wanting everyone else to eat the same way. I like Kath, I like KERF and I’m sure I will continue to ‘see’ you all around.

when i watched your laundry video, i thought instantly “she is a little bit pregnant!!” congrats!!! super exciting, and can’t wait to read about it.
Denise W says
Kath,
Congratulations! I’ve been wondering ever since Emily Malone got pregnant and had Cullen if you and Matt would soon follow. Not that you base your decisions after someone else’s major life decisions. Only that I put both you and Emily in the same category…THE BEST category. I thought you and Matt were as ready as they were. You two are going to be AWESOME parents. I think you both will be wonderful examples to your little one. Congrats again, and I cannot wait to read more about your newest adventure.
Emily @ the doodlebug says
NO WAY!!! Congrats!!!!! I’m pregnant too!! Can’t wait to see the posts you put up now 🙂 When are you due?! My due date is July 12th!
Jennifer (take the day off) says
Congrats, Kath! I was thinking this announcement would be coming sometime soon… What amazing news! I am nearing my 3rd trimester and I totally understand the lack of veggies in those first few weeks. I had no taste for my favorites like salad and broccoli but tried to force them down anyway. For some reason, it was easier for me to eat something that someone else prepared. Anything that I cooked was totally unappealing, especially when it was green!
OntarioGirl says
congratulations!!! I thought you might be but the beer in some of your posts threw me off…even though you obviously weren’t drinking it lol
I’m 12 weeks pregnant! Due August 22nd with our first and it’s such an exciting time. Excited to follow along on your journey as well. My taste buds have been pretty much the same…carbs, cheese, orange juice and NO veggies…slowly starting to want veggies and other things again finally 🙂
Kelsey says
Congratulations! And I, too, am AMAZED that some people have enough time on their hands to leave frothy rants in your comment section. If the blog was already a waste of their time, why would they put more time into writing a paragraph long DOTM session?
I pretty rarely comment, let alone read them… and find it’s so unfortunate to see that kind of negativity. Your blog might not be for everyone, all the time, forever… but even when its had its slow points for me, I always come back to learn something new, get back on track with real food (I had a fire cheetos episode back there awhile ago) and gather new house-cleaning tricks. Love it.
Carly says
Kath,
Congratulations Kath! I started reading your blog this summer, and I have been a daily reader ever since. Reading your blog is very helpful in keeping me on track with a healthy lifestyle. You inspired me to start running and to start eating oatmeal! I did not realize how many negative comments you were receiving! I could not believe what people were saying! I just wanted to be one more positive comment, and say that you are inspiring!!
Sara says
Congrats! I just had a baby boy on Hallowe’en and I love how all my fave blogs are going through the same! I had a rough pregnancy with morning sickness and veggies really drove me to the toilet so I understand the lack thereof! Sending lots of good vibes for a happy and healthy pregnancy!

PS – I just read all the comments from the Blended and Frothed post – I rarely take the time to read comments, just the posts 🙂 – but holy cow! People can be harsh…so I just want to encourage you to keep doing what you’re doing! This is your life, your blog and at the end of the day it is about what YOU love and want to write about. We just happen to be lucky enough for you to share a little bit with us. Keep it up girlfriend! You rock 🙂

Congrats!!! Kath, I have been reading your blog for over 4 years and love it! I just now read those mean comments about your posts and can not believe people could be so mean! As a regular reader, I think you are very reliable about posting and you too are allowed off days, just as your regular job! They need to remember this is somewhat your job, but you do not get weekends or holidays off! (you could it just seems you do not take them!!) One thing I love about your blog is that you post real life things, compared to some other blogs out there where they seem so self-centered in their posts! Oh, and congrats to Matt too!!

Congratulations on your pregnancy, but I am a little confused by why pregnancy would make your posts more “aloof” (strange choice of words on your part, because the criticism was about the lack of interesting content, not your voice). Millions, if not billions of women have been pregnant and have managed to continue performing their jobs to their maximal potential. Pregnancy is not a disability and should not affect your ability to write decent blog content.
KathEats says
If I worked a regular job, I would have called in sick that day. When you can’t lift your head off the pillow, consuming, photographing and writing about food is the last thing you want to do. Luckily the worst days passed and I was able to get back to normal.
Kimberly says
Does that mean that you didn’t really eat all of those oatmeal bowls? Do you save a bowl in the fridge to take a pic of on the mornings when you’re feeling sick or do you reuse a pic of a previous oatmeal bowl? It must be hard to have your job being taking pictures of the food that you eat when you’re too nauseous to really eat!
Congrats to you and Matt!
MelanieF says
It’s important to remember that not ALL pregnant women have the same symptoms and are ALL going to be super-happy and not sick or tired everyday. I have never been pregnant, but all my friends have kids and some of them had the worst pregnancies and some had the best. It all depends. You can never know, until you get pregnant.
Jessica says
@Mizzy, I would defy you to find one person who has performed her job to her maximum potential for the entirety of her pregnancy. Pregnancy may not technically be considered a disability, but believe me, there are days when you’re unable to do much other than the most basic life tasks.
Melissa says
Honestly, I never missed a day of work when I was pregnant with my eldest child. I met all of my commercial mortgage goals and increased clientele for the company – that means lots of dragging my head off the pillow, sitting in board meetings and business lunches. With my younger two children, I had to continue making their meals and changing poopy, stinky diapers when I felt ready to vomit everywhere. I remember literally crawling across the floor to play with my crawling baby. I don’t know how I did it, but I did it. You can be pregnant, feel like shit and still excel. Some days, you drag yourself out of bed and just do it.
Jessica says
Well, maybe feeling horrible takes a greater toll on some than on others. Of course, everyone has different priorities, and caring for kids and going to work certainly are important ones. But I guess what I’m saying is that crawling across the floor after your baby probably wasn’t your top form, and that’s fine. You did what you had to do, but you weren’t at your absolute best, which is fine, but it’s only fair to have the same expectations of others. The post in question wasn’t Kath’s best, and I’m sure she’d admit it…it’s her equivalent of crawling across the floor after a baby.
I just think it’s a little silly to assume that we can just “power through” any and every part of a difficult situation. Rather, maybe we can, but maybe we shouldn’t. Being gentle with ourselves is probably most important during pregnancy and postpartum.
Sydney says
This isn’t finals week, it’s a baby! This reminds me of people in school bragging about who got the least amount of sleep the night before a test. And then one day you realize that the winner is actually the person who got the most sleep! Know what I mean? It sounds ur trying to compete over who can have the crappiest time :-/ Sacrifice is not inspiring, it’s just a little sad.. hopefully kath’s experience is really interesting and dynamic! And if she wants to rest and be lazy, more power to her. I hope you have more time to relax now! 🙂

Everyone is different. My sister was incredibly sick for the first SIX MONTHS with her first child and she simply could not work, bottom line. No, pregnancy is Not a disability, but it does take a lot of your body away from your control, and every woman is different.

Congratulations! Parenthood is such a wonderful adventure! I wish you the best and hope you are able to relax and enjoy! Remember that every moment won’t be a Better Homes and Gardens moment. I read the complaints from a previous post and was surprised people were dragging out their issue with content. Some people need to find better things to do. I will warn you to be careful what you blame on pregnancy. If you feel well enough to go to body pump or for a run, you can probably write an interesting morning post.

Hi Kath! Congratulations! I’ve been trying to pick up the subtle signs for a while, but I guess I missed them. As a daily reader for over a year, I almost got teary eyed. I’m so happy for you. Then I read the negative comments and I DID get teary eyed. How unnecessary and inappropriate. Way to be awesome and preserver, maintaining your happy demeanor and sunny outlook.
WendyF says
Wow !!!! I am so excited for you and Matt. Congratulations 🙂

Congrats! I’ve been a reader for a while and frequently check up on your blog, and unfortunately the last time I checked was the dreaded smoothie post that so many people seemed to have a ginormous issue with! I since then hadn’t revisited as I was honestly quite upset with the reactions of people, but for some reason, I checked back today – to this! What amazing news, and an amazing journey for you and Matt. All the best, and I look forward to becoming a regular reader once again!!

Congratulations! I had a feeling this announcement would be coming soon, despite the pics of beer and wine still there 🙂 I remember you saying something about how difficult it would be to hide pregnancy from your readers so I figured that you’d have to do something like that until you were ready to share your news. Welcome to the most wonderful, amazing, beautiful and difficult experience you’ll ever have!

I’m coming out of lurk mode to congratulate you and Matt. What a wonderful way to start the year!

Kath,
Wow! I am SOEXCITEDFORYOU! My little Sedona just turned nine months and since then I have really tapered off my reading of your blog. I stop in here and there, but I luckily came in TODAY! I went back and saw the shit storm that came your way and I just have to say that personally I am so grateful for your blog and for what you do. I am sure you are constantly getting criticized and the opinions from your readers can be draining, but you truly do an amazing job blogging. I started reading probably two years back. You really showed me a lifestyle that I long for, a way of eating that just MAKES SENSE and a passion for food that challenged the way I look at my routine. I am still such a work in progress, but I love knowing that when I have time and need inspiration I can come here. I hope that you continue on your blogging journey, and I really look forward to the changes that motherhood brings for you and the blog. It may make it easier for me to relate because now I am a mommy too! Thanks so much for all that you do. Your passion for healthy eating is something we all need to catch hold of and what you offer to your readers helps to transform lives for the better. Remember this! =) CONGRATS!

Lyn @ Life Lyn Style says
Hi Kath,
I love your blog. Congrats to you and Matt.
I have a quick story about hiding pregnancy. My sister’s brother and sister in law found out they were pregnant 5 months before Christmas. The husband wanted to tell all of his family via the family DVD that he makes for each year. To help hide the pregancy, he and a friend drank a bunch of her favorite beer and then refilled the bottles with soda. She kept drinking at all of the family functions and holidays until the big reveal. At the end of the DVD, they showed outtakes of the guys drinking all of the necessary beer. It was great! They even got their mom on camera finding out about the pregnancy to help start off the next DVD.

Congratulations to you and Matt!!
When I was in my first trimester, I ate so much Chicken Parmesan that I was sure my son’s head would be shaped like a cutlet, but fortunately it was not. Once I got through the first three months, I was able to get on a really healthy regmine and felt fantastic throughout the pregnancy, as I am sure you will as well!! Just listen to your body and your cravings (within reason, of course) and definitely continue to get some exercise.
So happy for you.

Chris says
Congratulations! When is your due date?
Noelle says
Congrats Kath! I love reading your blog and I can’t wait to keep up on all of your pregnancy eats. Such an exciting time — enjoy!
Katryn says
Wonderful!! I have goosebumps! I am so so thrilled for you and Matt. 🙂
You will be wonderful parents. It’s funny to say this since I don’t know you…but this post made my day!
Laura P says
Congrats! I didn’t notice the change in your eating habits, I just figured you were eating seasonally. I have two kids and had vastly different diets w/ each. You eat what you can when you can. This is one of the best times to indulge, if you want ice cream for dinner then go for it!
I can’t wait to see how great you’ll do at adding baby and food things together. I love to read the blog. It’s well done. I often find that there is a line in the sand so to speak that seperates those w/ kids and those w/o. Some people can relax the line and some can’t, sigh, but that’s life, right?
The best advice I ever got, was you will know your baby best and so if you find some advice that you don’t like, just remember it’s your kiddo and you know best.
It must be so nice to talk about it openly w/ all your blogging fans!
Congrats again!
Ingunn says
I knew it! 😀 Congratulations to both of you, enjoy this amazing time in your life.
Adrienne says
Congratulations Kath! I cannot wait to hear what you have to day about prenatal nutrition. Also, I did not realize that you had negative comments, but then I looked at that post. Oh my heavens, they were so very mean. It is not as if they were personally paying you to write the blog.
Eve says
Congratulations!! I’m so excited to follow your pregnancy. I hope you feel great – 1st trimester is definitely not easy. I ate a lot of bread and cheese too 🙂 I’m about to enter 3rd trimester for my 2nd pregnancy now, so looking forward to meeting our 2nd baby girl. Are you going to find out what gender the baby is?
KathEats says
Yes!

Congrats! And don’t listen to the haters – some people just need to complain about EVERYTHING. I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of years, and have found it very inspirational. Keep up the good work!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
Congrats, family KERF 🙂
Sarah says
I don’t normally read comments, but wow. Talk about rude. Congrats on your pregnancy. But why do vegetables have to lose their appeal in the 1st trimester? Bring on the carbs for now!
JessicaE says
Man its hard to explain…. food aversions are So Crazy! Its not just vegetables (although those do seem a quite common aversion.) Something that you can eat one day suddenly sounds HORRIBLE the next day. You will start to eat something that did sound good and as soon as you take a few bites, its suddenly disgusting lol.
PPP says
OMG CONGRATS! after reading you for so so many years (since the very beginnning!) i just got so darn excited about this! Also excited because I am also preggo and expecting this summer (our 2nd) so i am excited to do the whole eating-for-two journey with you! 🙂
Sarah says
Congratulations to you both!! 🙂
polly says
yay for BABY bread! 🙂 love you, ignore all mean people. They are crazy anyways.
and YAY for no veggies. they are overrated. 😉 XOXO
p.s. being a mom is yummier than anything you’ll ever experience. 🙂 <3
Sara says
Kath!!! I’m soooooo excited for you and Matt!!! I’ve been reading your blog for a long time, and don’t often comment, but I MUST today, because this HUGE!!! :))) Your blog is wonderful consistently, and I can’t wait to follow your preggers journey. I’m 15 weeks along with baby number three, and it’s so inspiring to ready HLB with someone who is going through the same thing as me as well. You inspire me everyday with your healthy choices and positive spirit. It encourages me to do the same! Your in my prayers! Take it easy with growing a baby. Honor how you feel each day, b/c that will change rapidly as I’m sure you already know 😉 HUGS!
Maria says
and of course your Mom and Dad too!! 🙂
kelly says
Congrats!
Suzanne says
Congratulations Matt & Kath. I’ve been hoping you two would start making babies soon, I know you’ll make fantastic parents.
Nicole says
How awesome for you both!! Babies are my “business” (infant massage, postpartum doula and childbirth educator) and I couldn’t LOVE anything more (except maybe my own 3 “baby” boys–ages 9, 13 and 15 🙂
Take good care of yourself and be sure to try to get 80-100 grams of protein a day–after all, you’re growing another human made of protein 🙂
KathEats says
Working on it!! 🙂
MaryBe@Accidentally-Vegan says
This gives a whole new meaning to bread baby!
This post made me teary twice – first your announcement and then the little comment from your Grandmother. So sweet! My Gramma was the first one I told, too.
I had a feeling about this too; I think it was when I won one of your Mom’s contests and we were commenting on how much we want grandchildren. She’s so lucky!! Oh, and you are too 😀
All the best to you, Matt, and your families! So exciting!
Sarah says
Congrats, Kath & Matt! Kath, you were the first healthy living blog I ever found and began following and I appreciate how you stay so committed and true to the mission of KERF–spreading the love for healthy eating! I also think it’s kind of creepy that people were so upset you cut back on personal information about your life…who cares?! It is YOUR blog about healthy eating/living, not a journal of every part of your life meant to entertain others! Best wishes to you and Matt and thanks for choosing to share what you do 🙂 I love every post of yours!
Megan Infantino says
Everyone is getting preggo lately!!!!!!
Congrats!!
Nicole says
Congratulations!! This is very exciting news!
caroline says
OH MY GOSH! CONGRATULATIONS!
Stacy @ Say It With Sprinkles says
I feel like I must be the only one, after having read this post, to be naive enough to think you really meant there was a new kind of bread coming out soon! HAHAHA!
Well, now that I’ve read the comments, a different kind of congratulations are in order! =)
Katherine says
I really enjoy your blog and it shows in my evolving food preferences! Even my two year old son eats oats in the morning and loves green smoothies! Despite following your blog for years, this is my first comment (i think) but what a worthwhile occasion! Congratulations! PS be sure to get a Bob Jogging Stroller! Totally worth it!
Megan Infantino says
BTW – How far along???!!!
Amanda says
I hadn’t read the comments on the post you linked to “blended and frothed” until today and I was completely and utterly shocked by the things people wrote on there. There were so many side conversations that seemed to assume you would never read them, they were so harsh and heartless and I don’t believe that anyone would actually say those things to you if they were with you in person. They all seemed to be readers for quite some time yet had almost no regard for your feelings at all. I am so sorry that you had to deal with all that, especially considering that you were holding such a wonderful and exciting secret through it all. You have had a lot going on these last few years and have kept up entertaining us through all of it and the people who truly care about you and your style of blogging will not be going anywhere. I feel like a big difference in your blog is that we get to see your personality a lot and we can really make a connection with you and feel like we are your friend. And I’m sorry but I’m not going to say “hey I don’t want to be your friend anymore because you aren’t helping me lose weight”.
Sorry for the long comment just wanted to let you know that I completely respect everything you do and admire your strength in handling the negative comments. I’m so excited for you and Matt, you will be great parents!
Kathryn says
congrats!!! I have a three week old baby girl and its amazing! So happy for you guys!
Tracy says
Congratulations and welcome to the next phase in your life! Kids are such a wonderful, awe-inspiring gift. Enjoy the experience and be prepared for more love than you can fathom!
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs says
Congratulations to you and Matt! Such exciting news!
I can NOT get over the negative commenters, both in the earlier posts you linked back to, and even in this post! If you don’t like what your reading, don’t read it. Simple! And the nerve of some people to criticize what foods you have been able to stomach in your first trimester — is this for real???
Anyway, rest assured that there are many of us who love the blog, and are excited to read about this next chapter of your life!
Congrats again!
Alycia says
I’ve been reading for awhile, I’ve never commented but I am just SO happy for you!! And I have to say, while I noticed the “aloof” posts, I never realized the comment fury and I just enjoyed the pictures and simplicity! KERF is a nice mix of different types of posts and I’ve always enjoyed that. If you make every post super long, I wouldn’t have time to read them!!
Enjoy this special time!
Kristi says
Omg kath! I haven’t been paying close enough attention and the beer and wine pics def fooled me! I am so happy for you two! I’ve been reading for years and can’t wait to follow along on this adventure (hopefully my hub and I are not too far behind)! Congrats!
Christa says
Many congratulations, Kath! Yours is the first healthy living blog I read and I have been a loyal reader and have discovered so many others thanks to your writing. So excited to see how this journey goes for you guys and hopefully adopt some of your tactics/advice in the next couple of years when we (hopefully!) have one of our own on the way. Congratulations, again!
Freya says
Ahhh! Congrats Kath (& Matt)! I am so happy for you!!! xxx
JessicaE says
Congratulations, Kath and Matt. I have been reading your blog since 2008. I am currently pregnant with my first child as well, 16 weeks along. 🙂 Its been quite the journey so far and its only going to get better/crazier. Its insane how much your body and mood changes… I have been saying to people, “The baby is in charge of my body now, I just live here.” 🙂
I was extremely lucky to only have morning sickness up to about nine weeks, and my eating/appetite got pretty normal after that. I hope you are feeling okay and am very interested in what symptoms you are having and how far along you are.
So excited to share this journey with you. Such a life changer. 🙂
KathEats says
Love that quote – so true!
ASecretLoginName says
Congratulations! When are you due? I’m due in September myself. It makes me feel a lot better to see you defending your produce aversions above. Before I got pregnant I swore I’d eat the same as always throughout my pregnancy, not gain an ounce more than I have to, etc etc etc but then Week 8 rolled around and I realized that I wasn’t so much in charge anymore.
As a fellow blogger I got a bit of satisfaction reading how extra-rude everyone looked from a few weeks ago demanding to know why your posts didn’t deliver the satisfaction they so sorely deserve 🙂
Ellen says
Congrats, Kath! Btw, I could look at the same bowl of oats EVERY morning and be happy, so definitely no pressure to do a lengthy post if you’re not feeling up to it that day! 😉
Kirst says
Koops!! So excited, we will have to talk soon. Congratulations!!! 🙂 Can’t wait to hear/read more about it.
Julia says
Congratulations!!!! 🙂
Kim says
I said it on twitter…but it’s just so nice I need to say it twice!! Congrats to you and Matt!!! So excited for the both of you!!! Yay, yay, yay!!! Looking forward to following your new adventure!!
Beth says
Congratulations! I’m at 29 weeks and have loved being pregnant. Bagels & cream cheese, cereal, fruit & cheese were huge 1st trimester staples for me. I’m a vegetarian who loves veggies & I HATED veggies for the first few months. I was so shocked. Enjoy this amazing time.
Shannon @ My Place In The Race says
Congratulations!!!!!
Hannah says
Congratulations Kath and Matt 🙂
Veronica (My Eats and Treats) says
Ah! Oh my gosh Oh my gosh Oh my gosh!!! The thought has crossed my mind, but I knew you would share these news and there was no need for being nosey! Haha. I can’t tell you just how overjoyed I am for you and Matt! I read your post while sitting in lecture (bad student! great KERF fan!) and I started smiling with the greatest glee! Children are the most precious gift, and you will make wonderful and loving parents. I’m so happy for you!
I’m originally from Russia, where there is a superstition/sign for just about everything. Apparently, morning sickness means you’ll have a girl?! I guess time will show. Yay!
All the best!
Veronica
Mary Catherine says
Congrats, Kath + Matt! Can’t wait to read about your journey to parenthood!
Marianne says
EEEEEKKKKK!!!! Congrats!!!!!! SUPER exciting news!

Marne says
WONDERFUL! I adore your blog and look forward to what this next chapter holds for you, Matt and the Bears! 😉
Lindsay says
Congratulations! There is nothing more amazing in this world! I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy!
The negative comments were completely ridiculous, I never saw them until this post, and I was in shock! If you want to make a post that doesn’t have any words, just a pretty picture, fine! Its your blog, your journal, your life, and you can do as you please. I love simple posts, they remind us in the reader world that you’re human, and life is not 60mph every second. Sometimes its a quite bowl of oatmeal.
So congratulations again, enjoy every minute of it!!!
Lauryn says
Awwww!!!!! I was totally shocked!!! I am SOOO happy for you guys!! How exciting!!!!
Jasper Naomi @ crunchylittlebites says
Kath! bun in the oven! love it!
Kerry @ Totes My Oats says
How exciting!! Congratulations!!!
Paula says
Wow! Congratulations!
Melissa says
Wow, I just read the link of negative comments. (I’m surprised that I missed them the first go round.) They WERE really rude and never ending. I don’t mind the short posts, at all. I read your blog like a magazine. Sometimes, I like a lot of info. and sometimes I like just pictures. Anyway, enough about that. Like the others have already said, I loved how you shared your big news. I was getting excited for you as I read, too. Congrats! So exciting.
Veronica (My Eats and Treats) says
I was just about to post a very similar response! I agree with Melissa 100%. There are so many of us who truly, genuinely LOVE your blog and your style works for us.
I read every. single. one. of. your. posts.
You have a perfect mix of stunning and scrumptious photography, healthy recipes, and daily examples of how to follow a happy and clean lifestyle – be it at home, at work, or out with friends!
Do these commenters really have nothing better to do than to leave mean comments?!?! Pfff. That’s just too silly.
We (the happy KERF fans) adore your work, efforts, and each and every final “product”!!! 🙂
Casey @ oatsandnanners says
OH MY GOODNESS! Congratulations kath!!!! This was such a cute post too 🙂 you’ll make such a great mom, I’m so happy for you
Stephanie says
yayayayy!!!! Congrats to you guys!!! I am really happy for you!!
Samantha Cernock says
I just had to go back and read the negative comments. One, I thought they were funny, marginally ridiculous. Two, I thought you handled it VERY WELL. Congrats again!
Maria Makes Muffins says
Congratulations! There were a few times in the last few weeks that I wondered if you were pregnant. I am 8 weeks pregnant with our second child and haven’t told my blog followers yet. 🙂 Being pregnant is such an amazing time! Rest assured that the fatigue and nausea with subside. I totally agree that you do have the pregnancy glow.
Jessica says
OMG! Congrats!!!! You and Matt will be fabulous parents!!
Eileen says
Congratulations, hope your pregnancy is uneventful!
Ali says
Congratulations Kath and Matt! I am a new reader of your blog and have absolutely fallen in love with it over the past few weeks. I couldn’t be happier for you two and know you will be absolutely amazing parents. I am very hopeful that you will choose to share your journey with us over the next few months as I will be waiting to hear all the details! Congrats again!

Kath, I’ve enjoyed your blog for years and never commented until now. Congratulations to you and Matt. My 2.5 year old daughter brings sunshine to my life on a daily basis, and I am so excited for you both to be able to experience similar joy. I am also very excited to see how you will maintain your healthy, green, responsible lifestyle with a baby – because I’m hoping for a few tips! 🙂 All the best to you and your (growing) family.
Anne@BakingMe says
Congratulations!
Christina says
Congratulations! Are you going to eat your placenta?
KathEats says
Oh gosh, I really don’t think I could…
Christina says
Yea, it doesn’t sound very appetizing. Well, it’s nice to know we wouldn’t be seeing any placenta recipes. 🙂 Speaking of recipes, have you thought about making your own baby food? I wouldn’t have even considered it, but someone gave me a small food grinder at my baby shower, and I fell in love with it. It’s also very easy to make baby food in the blender or food processor. Here’s where I got my information: http://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/
KathEats says
It’s definitely on my to-do list! That and cloth diapering.
Jennifer says
Yea! We are going to cloth diaper, it’s going to be an adventure but so money-saving and better for the environment! Check out http://www.theclothdiaperwhisperer.com/ if you haven’t, full of tips, tricks, and ideas to get you thinking.
Also, placenta encapsulation is a really great way of getting some nutrients back and warding off postpartum depression without having to actually eat the thing (supplements seem much more benign!). http://placentabenefits.info/
Suzanne says
Sorry, I had to come back after reading through those negative posts. I’m a fairly long time reader and eat a paleo diet so really, I don’t come here for the food. You seem like a lovely person and I enjoy the time I spend on your blog, daily. You’re a gifted young woman and personally I wouldn’t want a thing to change about your blog. To say there’s a lot of competition for Healthy Living blogs is rubbish, there’s very few quality blogs out there that I want to spend my time on and yours is number one on that list.
Alana says
If I could ‘like’ Suzanne’s post I would!
Congrats to you and Matt. I hope you have a wonderful, happy and healthy pregnancy!
Steph says
Congratulations Kath and Matt! We were talking about decaf and low caf teas a while back and you were so informed that I wondered if you may be pregnant. What great news; brings tears to my eyes! We are still trying ourselves(7 months in now…so frustrating) but this post makes me hopeful. Can not wait to follow right along with your journey. Enjoy every second.
Mary (A Merry Life) says
Aw, how exciting! Congrats!
Abby says
Congrats Kath!!! I read the unvieling comment when all that was going on and thought to myself… maybe another bakery? Obviously, I was clueless but so happy for you guys! You are going to be an amazing MOM!
Claire says
congrats kath!! great idea to launch another blog exclusively about the baby! I am super excited to add another blog written by you to my blogroll!
Ellen says
Wow… 585 comments later, I hope you know how loved you are by your readers! I certainly do adore your blog… one of my top 3 to read daily… and in addition to HUGE congrats on this exciting news, I also want to say that what some may call a “boring life,” I have viewed as a very carefully & well put together, organized, “with it” life that didn’t happen by accident! You have a certain amount of routine & lots of balance, and I have used that as inspiration to achieve the same in my often chaotic life. I love knowing how you approach life, food, etc. I applaud you for a job well done & thank you for giving so much of yourself, even when others view it as too little. (I’ve read a long time, but have never commented on any of the many blogs I read)
Ellen says
Ha… was 585 as I started to write & 619 by the few minutes later that it took to pick my words!
Kaley says
SO very very happy for you!!! Being a mom is really the most amazing gift! I rarely comment but your blog was one of the very first I started following (3 years ago!) so I had to this time. I can’t wait to hear more about your pregnancy 🙂
Jessica says
OMG Congratulations!! Babies are awesome, I just had one this past June on my 25th birthday! Best birthday present ever! 🙂
michele says
Been reading your blog for a couple of years now. First time commenting. Shocked at the negative comments. Its your blog no one is forcing anyone to read it. If you dont have something nice to say dont say anything at all. Congratulations. The first and last trimester completely exhaust you give your body the rest it needs now before the bundle of joy arrives.
Laura @ She Eats Well says
Congratulations! I can’t wait to follow your journey.

This made me smile! I’ve been reading your blog for a while, and although I don’t know you, I’m so happy for you all the same! Congratulations!
Jennifer says
Congratulations! It’s a wild ride. I have not eaten a butternut squash since I was pregnant with my first and she’s almost 4 now. If I think about eating one I still get that same feeling in my stomach and I’m afraid to try one again.
I’ve often wondered how certain things will change when a baby comes. I will be interested to follow along. Those curtains that cover your closet doors can’t keep a baby out. 🙂 I’m also looking forward to Home Neat Home nursery addition.
Suzanne says
Congratulations!
Kathleen says
Funny–I was just wondering the other day if you two were thinking of having kids! Congratulations to both of you!

Julia says
WOO!! Congratulations, Kath! I’m an everyday reader and rare commenter but I just want to congratulate you and Matt. I got progressively more and more excited as I read on in this post… Can’t wait to read all about your pregnancy on the blog 🙂
Elizabeth says
Congratulations! I have read your blog daily for about two years and love every post. I can’t wait to keep reading:)
Nathalie says
Congratulations to you two!!! How cute is the bread baby?! And the ‘made with love” on Matt’s TShirt! Coincidence that you announced it on 2/6 😉 ? I totally didn’t get any of your hints and didn’t suspect a thing!
You will be such wonderful parents!!! x
Bea says
Congrats!!! I also lurk a lot, but this is such a wonderful occasion!

Maria says
Congrats you two! So happy for you and your family, 🙂
Jennifer says
I missed the clues, too! And I remember talking to you about how you would manage to “hide” that when I met you in August last year at the bakery. My husband and I were in town camping and we brought you beer from SC. I had just found out I was pregnant, and now I’m 35 weeks!
So happy for you, and so impressed at how well you handled those mean-spirited commenters. If people don’t like your blog, they should ready someone else’s! I still find your blog inspiring and look forward to hearing about your pregnancy!
Rachel says
YOU’RE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!! this is so exciting… i’ve been one of those mildly creepy readers who comments very occasionally but has been reading for years, and i’ve got to say that i thought it was about time 🙂 congratulations! clearly everyone is just beyond excited for you, and i hope that shows you how much you affect and inspire people in the blogging community!

Perhaps it’s the signs I’ve seen from so many of my fellow friends and bloggers, but I had a “gut” feeling (pun intended, of course!) you might be making an announcement of your own sometime soon! I am SO happy and excited for you and Matt. I think there is definitely something to that glow of yours. Love the picture, and can’t wait to follow along on your journey! 🙂

Congratulations to the two of you! 😀
Shana says
Congratulations! I am very glad you are including the blog world on your journey!! I went back to read the link about content complaints and I was absolutely floored by the amount of criticism you received. Truthfully, I figured the posts were shorter because you are understandably busy blogging, writing, exercising, socializing, and running a business. Then I thought all the carbs were just a phase! I though “oh…even nutritionists go through food phases!” I’m glad you stay true to you and keep the blog real…that’s the best content there is. AND PS….who are all these people that dissect blog content?!?!?!?!?!?! It’s supposed to be fun!!!!!!!!!!!
KathEats says
“It’s supposed to be fun” <--- what a simple and true concept!

Congrats to you and Matt! I just wanted to let you know that while I rarely comment I read your blog on a daily basis and it is one of my favorites. I love your beautiful pictures, I love seeing your food (even if its not something totally different every day!), and I love the little snippets of your life that you throw in. All I can say is, you’ve got some tough skin girl! There’s a reason its called Kath Eats-because its your blog! Congrats again and best wishes during this very happy time!!

I laughed out loud at the loaf of bread. I told my husband you own a bakery, and he said “she has a bun in the oven!”. 🙂 Congratulations, and enjoy every minute of it. Babies are the best!

Ha, Ha I was wondering if you were pregnant. I got pregnant in October and starting mid-Nov I had to break from you blog. I couldn’t handle the cusine, tons of veggies…and usually the vibrancy all the veggies offer excites me. But I could not do a ton of veggies for awhile. Mid-Jan I was able to return and seemed to notice some of your menu changes and wondered!!?? Congratulations!!!! This is my fourth and I started feeling better around month three, (bye bye food aversions and bad aftertastes (like pb, teas and mint for me).
Lou says
LONG time reader… I actually discovered you blog during late night feeding sessions with my (then) newborn (he tooks AGES to drink his milk!) I found you and HEAB and ended up going right back to the beginning of each of your blogs and reading right up to present day!
Now my little baby has turned into a walking (kinda) talking dude, and it’s YOUR turn! Very exciting, you will LOVE it, being a Mum is the most amazing thing – it’s amazing what we women can do, growing a baby is an incredible experience.
Congratulations to you and Matt 🙂
Sylvia says
Congratulations!
My first 10 weeks were tough. As a mom who experienced the worst morning sickness and exhaustion to the point that I had to pull over in a shopping center parking lot to sleep because I was so tired I could not make the drive home, my heart goes out to you. Some people are lucky and they don’t experience awful morning sickness and total exhaustion during their first trimester. Others have never been pregnant. I’m sure there will be a few heroic women who will tell you they were so tough that they kicked morning sickness in the ass. Whatever. You’re entitled to sleep a little more, eat the same thing 3 meals a day, 7 days per week if it doesn’t make you hurl. Take care of you.

CONGRATULATIONS! I am so happy for you. As a mom to a soon to be 4yr old Ava Grace (birthday is on Feb 28), I am welcoming you to the “club”, so to speak. I am wishing you a joyous, safe and uneventful pregnancy and birth and look forward to the evolution of the blog as you post about what you are going through.
On a side note…I don’t really read other people’s posts but was curious after you posted the link above. It made me really sad to read what others wrote. I very rarely comment and instead look at your blog as a entertaining diversion sprinkled into my day-nothing more, nothing less. Please keep up the good work and ignore the naysayers.

Congrats! I love it! I am 26 weeks today–those first couple of weeks are a doozy! Enjoy this fun time! Have you tried Whole Foods marscarpone cheese (2.99) with bagels? The marscarpone is slightly sweet and whipped and melts into the bagel. Oh my, even better than cream cheese and my fav. breakfast food right now along with oj. Blessings!!

Congratulations! You guys will be great parents, and I look forward to reading about your experience.

Congratulations! What an exciting new phase of your life!
I’m so sorry for all the negative comments from link. I guess it tells you how emotionally invested people can get in your life — online! I admit to feeling a bit left out since so many of my healthy living blogs have started families and content has changed, but at the same time I’m thrilled for all of you and the growth of your families. I’m just at a little different point in my life so I’ll read your mom’s blog ,and look for some other healthy living blogs geared for us older readers 🙂
Congrats again, and do what you need to do to enjoy this very special time in your life.

Hey Kath,
I have been reading your blog for almost a year now(its the first thing I do when I get to work). I wanted to just say how happy I am for you. I had to say something because I have been so excited for you since I found out yesterday morning about your big news! Thank you for letting us share in your excitement. Also thank you for helping me develop a healthier lifestyle. Since I started reading this blog I have oatmeal every morning with some sort of nut butter in it, I’m addicted(I expect an intervention from my family any day now on my nut butter addiction). I hope everything goes really smooth for you in these next few months and cant wait to hear more about your bun in the oven and oatmeal of course.

I’m coming to this post a bit late, I realize… First, CONGRATULATIONS! What happy, exciting news. 🙂 🙂 🙂 What a wonderful new chapter you have ahead of you.
Second, I’d just like to say, (not to harp on the one remotely negative link in this post, but I feel it needs to be said), those folks are just crabby and crazy! In this humble gal’s opinion: Pregnant or not, nauseous or not – your posts were not and never have been “aloof”. Don’t let those naysayers bring you down. I thoroughly enjoy your blog – always have! I don’t need you to give me the calorie count or nutrition content of every meal, nor do I need you to elaborate on the origin of every morsel. There is a rhythm to all things, including blogs, and each post does not have to be an essay. Short and sweet is sometimes the order of the day. Keep up the good work! I appreciate you and your blog. You make my daily journey to be good to myself more fun! 🙂

I’ve been super busy so I haven’t checked any blogs the past few days…so I was reading this morning’s post…then the Baby Finn one and I froze when I read, “You didn’t know it, but I knew I was pregnant..” Say WHAT? Robyn says
Hi Kath,
I actually stopped reading your blog a few weeks back because it did seem that it had moved away from the things I have enjoyed about it for the past three years. But I always come back to blogs I’ve loved hoping they’re back to what I’ve loved about them. So glad I did come back. And so sorry you had to endure so many negative comments. Not sure why people feel you owe them anything. If anything, we owe you for all the great information, great recipe ideas, etc. I’ve learned a lot through your blog. So, thank you!
And on that note, I will also say I had been wondering if you might start a family soon. As a mother of two kids, there were so many things – buying the new house, being within walking distance of the store, you cutting back on work at the bakery (even though I know that’s not your main focus or main job), the vacation, etc. It makes complete sense and I’m not surprised. I’m just really happy for you two and I look forward to reading your blog as you go through your pregnancy. I’m sure it will be insightful. So, congratulations!! Take care!
Tami says
Wow!!! Those comments were ridiculous!! and not true! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Your blog was the first blog I ever read!!!!
Amanda says
Congratulations on the big news! I just went back and read some of those awful comments people left on your blog. I was SHOCKED. I have a personal blog about my life (food, photography, etc) that I do for fun and I have good blog days and bad blog days. Sometimes I’m busy and don’t blog for a week and sometimes my content just sucks because I have nothing exciting going on that day. Regardless of whether or not you are getting paid for your blog, it is so impressive that you post multiple times a day, keep people interested and have kept such a successful blog for so long while living such a busy life! I don’t know how I would feel if people said negative things about my content, but I am very impressed with the way you handled it. From the comments I read you were tactful and respectful, which is much more than I can say for the readers leaving those comments. Your blog is amazing – It’s creative, informative, fun, lighthearted and so enjoyable (not to mention you’re a great photographer!) I don’t visit every day, but when I do I am always happy with what I see/read. If I wasn’t, I would find a blog I was happy with. I just can’t believe we are in a society where people put someone down because the content of their blog doesn’t meet their standards, when they could just not read it. They seem to think they are “helping you out” but it seems to me like they are just looking for something to complain about and someone to put down. I know you are a strong, confident woman and you know you are making people happy while helping them live healthy lifestyles, but as a human being it is difficult to let that stuff roll off your back without letting it affect you. So, I thought it couldn’t hurt for you to hear that those people are crazy and don’t know what they’re talking about 🙂 Congrats on a new baby, a wonderful blog, and what I’m sure will be another wonderful blog about the new adventure. It takes a lot of courage to put your life out in the world for everyone to see and scrutinize and you’ve done such a great job so far!
