Waaaaayyyy back in April of 2008 I created one of my most linked posts of all time. Back when “going viral” had nothing to do with social media. Behold, the vintage breakfast banana Hot Dog and Fries!
Admittedly, I don’t know if I have made this since! I don’t have hot dog buns in my house all that much, especially during the Great Harvest years. But recently I had some leftover from a cookout, so I decided to make a 2016 version for Mazen, who got a kick out of his breakfast hot dog!
Just like the original, the “ketchup” and “mustard” in the breakfast banana hot dog are peanut butter and raspberry jam.
(Although I might add that Mazen was actually disappointed he didn’t get to put real ketchup on this. I was surprised he didn’t insist on adding some!)
No need to be four years old to enjoy this one – I ate every last crumb of my breakfast banana hot dog!
This hot dog thinks he is a lap dog!!

I remember this recipe and have made it before! It’s so cute and creative. Cute “lap” dog!

Looks quite carby…what are the nutritional stats? This would probably cause a blood sugar crash in a couple hours!

It is on the high carb side, but I wouldn’t call this an everyday breakfast – more like a weekend treat like a stack of pancakes. Use a whole wheat bun, a smaller banana, go light on the jam, have half at a time, and add a glass of milk or an egg on the side if you’re sensitive.

I like to do something similar as a snack: banana with pb and jam and add a sprinkle of chocolate chips. Delish!

Yum! Kath I think I remember I got the idea for a carrot dog from you also way way back around 2009.

I have a 7 year old who would love this and she can be a bit a of a challenge at breakfast time, especially when we are rushing to school/work and she has recently decided she doesn’t like eggs! I will definitely try it with her. Thanks for the idea!

So freaking cute – I love the mango slices in the original! Hot dogs remind me of working in the little league snack bar for a billion years in a row. I thought I was Master chef serving up hot dogs we heated in the crockpot. The smell of hot dogs doesn’t usually go that well with me anymore, so this might be a version I could enjoy!

Kath I remember that!!! That looks like a Polly meal, don’t you think? haha simple and yummy.
The sweet pics of Gus and Mazen are adorable! XOXO

Fun! My son is 4 like Mazen, and just discovered the song Hot Dog by they might be Giants (via our Amazon Echo playing children’s music). Check it out!

I never comment. In fact, there were periods over the years that I wanted to be downright snarky on some of your posts. But this “new” kath is amazing. You are authentic, and fun, and just plain awesome. I love that you posted about the women’s march yesterday- because that can be scary for those trying to avoid conflict. And so many blogs that I follow recapped their weekends and it didn’t even get a mention. I just feel that you posting about it is the epitome of the new kath. You are you. And I like you and your energy a whole lot.
