Happy Weekend!!
We had an awesome night’s sleep on Friday night. 5.5 hours + 2.5 hours. Only one nighttime feeding! I know better than to assume this is how it will be forever, but we are enjoying it so much right now.
Grammie Buzz played with Maze while I made us both baked pumpkin oatmeal : ) I added some coconut to the topping instead of brown sugar, and it toasted perfectly in the oven!
Topped with sunflower butter and more coconut.
After breakfast, mom and I walked down to the bakery for exercise where we said goodbye to them. She is heartbroken she won’t see Maze again until Christmas! (Unless she decides to come visit!)
Matt and I then walked to the city market where we shopped around and got lunch.
I had a root veggie wrap in naan from Greenie’s, a really fun veggie-centric place. This had everything from beets to sweet potatoes and a spread of goat cheese on the edges. It was awesome!
Also enjoyed a bottle of Nugget’s Raw Kombucha – Citra Hops flavor!
We walked home and spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out with M. He loves toys! I’m the proudest mama in the world when he interact with them. And smiles at them. So proud.
We also test drove the Toyota Highlander and loved it!!
This evening, we were invited to a lovely dinner put on by the lovely Sarah and her husband, John.
The table was on their back deck and dressed beautifully! Loved the burlap runner. Heaters on top!
We brought a few dozen of our rolls to go with dinner plus a pumpkin bean dip I put together –
- 1 cup white beans
- 1/2 cup pumpkin
- 1/4 cup ricotta
- 2 sprigs fresh rosemary
- 1/4 tsp salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp smoked maple syrup
All blended together in the vita-mix.
We had brie and grapes to start –
Paired with this spicy jalapeno wine!! What an interesting flavor. I couldn’t drink more than a few sips, but I loved the concept.
More apps included a quiche
And cilantro deviled eggs. Both brought by other guests.
The main course was turkey loin with rosemary, roasted potatoes, asparagus with lemon hollandaise, and cheesy roasted cauliflower
We had a great time with our friends!
Our sweet baby was upstairs with his first babysitter and his friend Sylvia. I was able to go up and feed him when he needed me. They had a fun time playing together!
We ended the night by a warm fire, but Matt and I left a little early to tuck Mazen into bed. Even when he was just upstairs, we missed him so much! Fun evening with friends though.

I haven’t popped in for a few weeks….but wow, your boy is growing so fast!! Such a handsome little guy 🙂
Jenny @ For Your Consideration says
I love how often you are able to get out and about with Mazen. I’m due in December, and I have been thinking about how I would love to get out and about with my own little boy. I have a question for you: What are your plans for doing this during the winter months? We bought one of those sleeping bag things that goes over the stroller, but I’m not sure if that will keep baby warm enough…Have you thought about it at all? Any ideas besides mall-walking?
KathEats says
I haven’t planned for this yet but I think a bunting (the sleeper thing) is probably a smart idea
Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews says
Looks like a fun night out! That root veggie wrap sounds delicious. I’m going to make one similar at home.
Coco says
We own a highlander and love it too, especially good if you plan to have more kids.
Toys already? Which ones Maze like?
Tracy says
I’ve been driving Toyotas for about 10 years now and we traded our Sequoia in for a Highlander last spring. I love that car!!! You can’t go wrong with Toyota in general IMO. The highlander is a great size SUV. Not too big or small. Good luck with you decision!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
oh my goodness, those cilantro deviled eggs look so cool! I bet they were delicious, I love cilantro!
Lindsay says
I just bought a Mazda CX-5 and I LOVE it. I hope you will give mazda a chance. they have a larger vehicle a CX-9 that might be perfect for you, but the price is MUCH more reasonably priced than Honda or Toyota!
KathEats says
We sat in the CX-5 and I LOVED it! But it was too small for us. We test drove the CX-9 and just didn’t like it. Something about the feel and style and drive. My first car was a Mazda though, so I love ’em.
Averie @ Averie Cooks says
The Nugget’s Raw Kombucha looks so good and so does the bean/pumpkin dip you made. And so does that slice of brie 🙂 What a fun event!
And woo-hoo for one night-time feeding. That’s a milestone, wow! Congrats mom 🙂
Christine says
Such cute pictures of Mazen! He’s really starting to look older already.
zoe @ loseweightandgainhealth says
That baked pumpkin oatmeal looks lovely – I am definitely making that. You look fantastic in that photo of you in the bakery. The bright pink and purple really suit you and you look super slim – well done.
Susan H. @ The Food Allergy Chronicles says
Root Veggie Wrap looks yum! Pumpkin Bean Dip is one I would love to try. Enjoying a balmy 17 degree celcius day here in Southern Ontario…going to try to enjoy it while I can…in between freezing cold hockey arenas! lol 🙂
Michelle (Peachy Palate) says
Sounds like the perfect day…if only because it started with baked pumpkin oatmeal! Picture of the two babies is so cute and he looks so big in his little seat! I want you’re veggie wrap!! 🙂 Happy Sunday!
Lauren says
What a gorgeous spread! I am always so intimidated by table settings, it just seems like one of those super-luxurious details that I’ll always be too distracted by all of the other things at a dinner party (namely, the FOOD) to be good at; but it gives such an incredible air of elegance.
That baked oatmeal looks delicious! Do you prefer regular oats or baked oats?
KathEats says
I think overall, regular. But I am loving the baked!
Nicole says
Looks like such a fun evening! I love how you missed your little guy for just that small period of time, isn’t it crazy? I feel that way even if my babe goes down for a loooong nap, haha 🙂
Marcia says
You could get lucky with the sleep. Our first didn’t sleep well…5 hours at 5 months. 8 hours at 8 months.
Our new baby started sleeping 10+ hours at about 12 weeks. 🙂
mandyp says
wowie, all of that food looks delicious! and jalapeno wine, what a concept!
Meagan says
Wow! What fun you always have 🙂
Question – is it normal in the south to always have dinner parties? I’ve noticed over the years as I’ve followed you that you always find friends and have dinner, whether at a restaurant or at someomes home. Today it occurred to me that this might be a southern thing? Or is it just your group of friends?
Toyota’s are super reliable. My parents have a 99 Sienna and it’s still acting like it was just born!
KathEats says
I don’t think it’s necessarily southern – maybe it’s more of an adult thing? I think adults have more dinner parties whereas younger folks have more party-parties
Meagan says
Hmm, yeah I had that thought too 🙂
Alicia @ Wanna Be Ina says
I just threw the first dinner party in our new house last night. It was a big hit! I always hire a sitter for my parties so that we can have grown up time knowing our kiddos are close by, it also keeps people from getting too inebriated because they have their kids with them. I wish some of my friends would return the favor when they throw parties!
BTW – Mazen looks like he has grown a ton in the last week.
KathEats says
He has! 9 week growth spurt?
M says
Such fun! I am loving that white baking dish. Where did you find it?
Really happy for you!
KathEats says
I’m not quite sure where the dish came from. I think it was from a store like TJ Maxx
Cait says
You’re looking amazing Kath!
Christina @ The Beautiful Balance says
I need that raw kombucha in my life with a side of your bread!
Buy Glasses Direct Online says
sunflower butter is delicious. great.
DianeKay says
That baby sure is a cutie.
FYI – we’ve had a Highlander since 2008 and love it so much we don’t ever want another vehicle. No major repairs, large enough to accommodate my husbands stand-up bass.
Emily @ www.main-eats.com says
I’m definitely loving all of your coconut the last few days-I love it and can’t get enough!
Fran@BCDC says
Looks like a lovely evening!
Jennifer G says
Yay for some good sleep!! It will last and it only gets better from here! As for car shopping, when we bought our pathfinder it was long before baby, we did test drive the highlander and i loved it!
My only advise is to check out how it is with the car seat in it, facing backwards. Our pathfinder is a great size car, until that carseat came on board! We are pretty tall and when its in, the passenger seat is up pretty far. Esp. with now they recommend 2 years facing back!?
Best of luck with the car decision! And Mazen is indeed getting big! Power to the milk!
Jennifer G says
oh and YAY for the BOB!! I was hoping you would use it soon!
Betsy @ A Dancer In The Kitchen says
Looks like a great night! Your little guy is so precious! I’m trying to decide if I should buy a Vitamix….do you love yours? My husband doesn’t think we need it because we have a nice Breville blender….!
KathEats says
Yes… It’s unlike any other!
Molly says
Do you have any special tips for getting all of the food out of a Vitamix and cleaning it thoroughly? I love mine about 95% but it would be 100% if the bottom detached or something.
KathEats says
I use a spatula. And then for cleaning, just add hot water and dish soap and blend!
