I have two: my husband and my new blogging software: Windows Live Writer .
The husband has been my hero these past few weeks. He makes our weekly oatmeal every Sunday without any reminders, and has really picked up the slack in the household with me being out of commission from class and sickness.
We even employed a bell system for me to call him in the middle of the night (he slept in the guest room so as not to crowd me.) It was quite hilarious when I would ring for him. So xoxo to him <3
As for Windows Live Writer (WLW). I cannot believe I didn’t find this sooner!! It’s a FREE desktop blog publisher where you write your blog and push "Publish" at the end and it uploads automatically to your blog.
MAJOR Pros:
- You know how I’ve been manually inserting photos for over a month now due to a forced WordPress upgrade with bugs? Well WLW gets around that and lets you DRAG AND DROP (and copy and paste) photos right from your desktop!
- AND you can pre-set the formatting like borders and size (!!) and save more steps and time!
- AND highlighting text has a cool auto feature that makes my bolding much easier
A. mazing. I’ve been wanting this for ages on the blog! It’s really easy to get set up, so if you have a blog, I highly recommend it after only 30 minutes of use. More info and download here: http://get.live.com/writer/overview . It’s almost too good to be true – I hope I don’t find out some glitch that means I have to go back to manual WordPress posts.
I am feeling much better! Still icky and tired and my stomach is off, but I think I should be able to get to classes tomorrow.
I had half a fresh hot bagel out of the oven around 10:00 –
He made them without holes this time so we’re calling them Bagel Buns 🙂
These really are the best bagels I’ve ever had. Chewy and moist and perfectly portioned.
Lunch?
The thought of vegetables makes my stomach churn, so for lunch of course I turned to the ultimate comfort food: oatmeal !
1/3 cup portion topped with some trail mix and almond butter. I definitely did NOT want to feel full after this and first the first time ever it didn’t taste that great, but then I realized the husband forgot to put a pinch of salt in it – that’s why it was bland! I swear a pinch of salt makes oatmeal taste so much better.
Not sure what’s for dinner tonight since I’m not in the mood for eating. I’ve got some housework to do (vacuuming, laundry) that will probably wipe me out just in time to watch a movie tonight. Other than studying for finals , I’m all caught up on my school work thanks to a 3-day study-fest last weekend. Good timing for the sickness for that at least.

Hahaha the bell made me laugh! That’s hilarious and sweet at the same time 😀
Oatmeal IS the ultimate comfort food! I sometimes wonder if it’s possible to have *too* much oatmeal 😛
Hope you feel better soon!

i have been dying to ask you this. did you think of the wedding bouqet flowers for your anniversary or did a woman tell you to do that for kath? because i STILL think thats the sweetest thing ever and im not convinced a man could think of that on their own. LOL.

Hope you are feeling better by tomorrow, Kath! Being sick in the summer is no fun – you’re lucky to have such a good nurse/husband to look after you!

Kath or other bloggers,
I just bought my first jar of natural pb and there is a thick layer of oil at the top. What should I do?
I heard someone once say to turn the jar upside down. I heard someone else say to pour off the oil. What is the best way to deal with it?
Thanks!
Jess says
Lara – mix it up! the oil is good fat but it grossed me out the first time I bought natural pb lol. But if you stir it a few times and refrigerate it’ll go away.

Glad you are feeling better! Interesting food you had… I’ve had some really bad experiences eating out. I love experimenting with new foods, but I so prefer eating at home for this reason. Even when eating veggies you can get in major trouble if not prepared right or contaminated with whatever. What a terrific hubby!

Those bagels look absolutely amazing!! I wish I could pay for you to send one my way…
and thanks for the Info about Live Writer. I’m going to download it now!!

you know you are a grown up when you are glad you get sick on the weekend as to not miss work/responsibilites as opposed to when you were a kid so you could miss school.
Feel better!

Lara- I second the “mix it up” strategy. It can be a little messy at first but you’ll get the hang of it. =] And if you don’t like natural PB at first, don’t give up on it! It’ll grow on you.

Welcome back, Kath! So glad you’re feeling better – and back in high spirits.
Great job, Matt! That was so sweet how you took care of Kath. 🙂 The bell made me laugh too. I wish I had one! Although my husband is just as sweet – especially when I’m not feeling well.
Glad to have you back! 🙂

Hi Kath, glad you’re starting to feel better!!
I loved your post about Asheville. I live in Greensboro. I saw you mentioned Charleston as a great place to go. I’ve never been and neither have my friends but we’re thinking of planning a “girls trip” in the fall (3 or 4 days). Any places you would recommend (restaurants, bars, sight-seeing, places to stay)? Thanks!

Those bagel’s look so great, I am really trying to convince my husband to help me make a batch.
The only bread making I do is with a bread maker.
I hope you are back to feeling normal soon!

Sorry you’re not feeling well! I’m sure your healthy immune system will repay you for treating it so well by kicking this crud out fast. It’s good to know Matt’s taking good care of you!
Re: peanut butter. If I can wait a few days before opening a new jar, I put it upside down in the cupboard. This sort of self-mixes the oil so you don’t have to deal with it. If I don’t have the time, though, I just mix it up with a knife before refrigerating it. If you pour the oil off sometimes you’ll get to the bottom and the pb will be dry and crumbly. Can you tell I love peanut butter?

Kath, I’m so glad you are starting to feel better – kudos to Matt for taking such great care of you!!
I love Microsoft Word Live, I use it too and haven’t experienced any glitches – I thought it was a common thing and that you used something more high tech or I would have mentioned it when you were having problems several weeks ago 🙁
Your Asheville trip looks so wonderful, I ate at Laughing Seed a few weeks ago when we were there and LOVED it! I still crave the tempeh dish I had there. Was the B&B you stayed in reasonable – we are planning to go back this fall and if you think it’s worth recommending (minus the bad breakfast) I’d love to know the name.
Thanks Kath – have a great week!
Kath says
lara ,
We store our PB jars in the cabinet upsidedown, which does make the stirring process easier. Basically you just need to get in there with a long knife and stir and stir and stir. Then stir some more when you think it’s done. Then put it in the fridge and that’s all the stirring you’ll ever need. 5 minutes per jar is worth the fresh taste of natural!
Julie,
I haven’t spent as much time in Charleston but my favorite restaurants are S.N.O.B. (Slightly North of Broad, I believe) and Blossom. Jenna went to school in Charleston and might have some good recs for you.
Jessica ,
I am not high tech at all!!
I wouldn’t recommend the B&B where we stayed this time, but we really liked the Chestnut Inn a LOT 2 years ago (it was booked this time). It’s within walking distance from downtown (A HUGE plus for us) and was really cool with nice owners, comp. hor d’oeuvres and wine and a big bowl of chocolate covered coffee beans that I raided 🙂

caitlinbo,
Wish I could say it was completely my idea but Kath dropped a hint or two about how much she loved her bouquet, so I took a picture to a flower shop and had them prepare it for the beach trip. Pretty good present though! Other men take note…

Thanks for the link to the wlw. It does sound too good to be true! LOL

Thanks Kath! I just asked Jenna about Charleston – I didn’t realize she went to school there. Thanks for your recommendations!
